by the way. i think everyone should follow @echoekhi, the founder of Project Copy-Knight. I'm sure many of you have seen the post already, but I wanted to share it again.
they're a brilliant coder who has developed resources that automatically update fic authors about their works getting stolen. recently youtubers have been trying to get around automatic checkers by inputting works through an AI that slightly rephrases the content (hence my ballsy comment, imaginary has been uploaded twice with each sentence of my work slightly rephrased). however, echoekhi has been working along with a very diligent team to manually check videos and alert authors.
let that sink in. i know a lot of people have let it fade into the background, but even now they keep working and are constantly troubleshooting. they're fucking amazing.
i literally cannot thank them enough. it's a little selfish to say, but now i don't exist day to day with this terrible dread that dozens of videos of my works exist without my knowledge, and that I'm the sole person tracking them down— because they have my backs.
they deserve endless thanks and more, and you should definitely follow them. they also have a post here that talks about the project and how you can help.
youtube stealers are getting a little ballsy

Hot Stuff (Tim Drake x Reader)
Words: 3k
Req: “can you do a fic where the reader has to get protected and she doesn't want to and thinks it's dumb but like otherwise someone is gonna try to kill her so a batboy (of your choice) has to protect her and they like realize they like each other? i just think it would be really cute sorry haha you can ignore me.”
I’m not gonna ignore you!!! this is adorable! also i let ppl vote not knowing the prompt and they picked tim hehehe so this will be fun! you really left me a LOT of creative freedom lmao so i tried my best but had a lot of fun lolz hope you enjoy angel!
It had been at least 5 years since you had ever shivered. And the last time it happened you were like 20 seconds away from dying so the fact that it was becoming a common feeling was definitely a problem. But your near death every couple minutes was a pretty dumb excuse to get you holed up in the batcave being watched over by none other than Mr. Batman himself.
The whole problem arose when all the cold-powered super villains decided it was time for their equivalent of a crossover, deciding that if the world was frozen over they could... steal shit? Then unfreeze it or something? They were always a little slow (call it brain freeze if you will) but the beginnings of their plan worked and the temperature of the Earth was dropping steadily which didn’t bode well for a hero like you who’s powers revolved around heat and energy, the colder you got the weaker- making this the reason you were in a makeshift furnace set up discreetly in the Batcave.
“Morning y/n let’s see how you’re doing” Tim greeted you with a wave, grabbing a tablet that was tracking your internal body temperature and other boring statistics on whether or not you’d live. “Oh man, okay, lemme turn it up” Tim tapped at the tablet while you folded another paper airplane and threw it at the glass. “I feel fine man, like really, I’m just chilling” you shrugged, incinerating the paper airplane with a small flame in the center of your palm while Tim chuckled. “Well ya see, you ‘chilling’ is actually quite a bad thing, but yeah a couple minutes with extra heat and you can come to breakfast!” you rolled your eyes at his smothered laughter. “How long you been sitting on that one?” you teased him.
“Long enough Sparky, now warm up I’m hungry” Tim started you on a burst of energy while he moved on to the main BatComputer. “Whatcha solving today? Anything I can help with?” you squinted at the screen hoping for something interesting. “Bruce is going out to see if he can find the location of all the machines dropping the temp, and no, you’re definitely not going outside anytime soon” Tim chided you while you groaned and let sharp flames jutt from your clenched fists. “I’m not a child, I can regulate my temperature on my own, hell I can still make fire so clearly I’m fine” you said matter-of-factly holding up a flame and letting it dancing into a small burst.
“And I’d like to keep you that way y/n let’s not risk it, now c’mon I think you’ve taken in enough energy” Tim opened the door to your little glass room, his eyes widening at the heat that brushed over his face. “Dude you ever got hot in there?” Tim questioned, fanning his face from the exposure. “Nope, I’m kinda like that all the time” you explained, casually taking his hand to show him how your skin practically radiated heat. “Oh- wow, you’re really warm but it’s kinda cool.” Tim mumbled, pushing your palm flush up against his, the tops of his fingertips curling around yours while he grinned, “your hands are so small” you snorted, “whatever Drake, I could cook you like a bird if I wanted to,” you laughed, racing up the steps towards the kitchen ready to warm up some breakfast.
That afternoon you were helping Damian through homework hoping for any excitement in the pure boredom. “Alright, done. I’m going to take Titus out you can come- uh actually nevermind.” Damian shot you an apologetic look before grabbing Titus’ collar. “No actually I can go! I’m super warm and got the go ahead!” You quickly stood up, telling yourself a little getaway was necessary. “Really? I believe Drake said-” you cut Damian off, “Tim is like never right about anything yaknow? Let’s go!” You zipped up a couple of your jackets with a grin while Damian led you outside.
The air was crisp, like a fall day that was on the verge of shifting into winter. “You’re not going to die on me are you?” Damian glanced at you while you breathed in the fresh air peacefully. “No haha, this is just regulating my temperature using my powers for a little while, I get ill when I do it for too long, let’s go!” you raced down the street loving the freedom even though you could feel the cold creep in.
“Y/n? Y/n? Guys I think her eyelids are moving! Y/N! Can you hear me?” a familiar voice buzzed over the white noise while you began to regain your senses. Slowly you blinked your eyes open to see Damian, who looked pissed, Bruce, who also looked pissed, and Tim, who looked worse than ever. “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING YOU LIED TO DAMIAN TO GO OUTSIDE THEN ALMOST DIED!” Tim was waving his hands and showing you charts of your warmth-cold ratios being at all time lows and spouting off concerning facts about your health while Bruce just looked at the ceiling asking ‘why me’.
“I thought I’d be fine” you whispered, feeling your throat scream at it’s use. “It’s like freezing outside- freakin colder than winter- and you wanted to go outside???” Tim looked exasperated, he was in a loose tank top and shorts, it looked like he’d been sweating so he had probably been next to you for a while during your recovery. “I didn’t think I’d get so cold” you mumbled, flexing your hands while you tried to regain your strength.
Eventually Tim calmed down, he went back to working on cases but you noticed him frequently checking to confirm you hadn’t left your new room. Damian chastised you for lying and told you how you essentially fainted a couple blocks into the walk, it was just way too cold too for you to function outside. But the small taste of freedom was worth it.
“Hey hot stuff,” Tim gave you a little devilish smile at his new nickname for you. “Cute Drake, but what’s up?” you called back as he approached your makeshift oven-room. “Nothing much just thought I’d come hangout- warm up your cold dark heart for once” you shook your head at all his heat-centered puns. “Tough talk for a glorified shish-kebab” you said with a laugh, letting a little spark dance on your finger tips.
“What does it feel like? The powers and being cold?” Tim asked, his eyes still staring at your palm. “Mhm it’s a part of me yaknow? So when it’s cold its like a piece of my being is being stifled, like choked out of me. But normally, it just flows through me and I can channel it and what not but right now it feels... rigid, like every ounce of warmth is being used to circulate through my own body” you said with a sign, missing the freedom and immense warmth. “We’re gonna fix this y/n you know that right? This is only temporary, I promise.” Tim whispered, inching closer to the glass.
You felt a tear slip out, quickly you pushed it away feeling it evaporate in your hands you looked up at Tim who was inches from the glass, his cheeks were red from the heat radiating on him as he stood bundled in a sweater. Slowly he gave you a hopeful smile, putting his hand up against the glass. With a small smile you uncurled your hand up to meet his, for a second you just met his eyes and knew you were safe. Even when everything seemed so cold Tim was warm, and he was always there for you.
A couple days later you were stable, but constantly needing reheating. You’d spent a lot of time with Tim who had set up a little workspace outside your room. He’d work on cases and talk to you, sometimes he’d catch a few minutes of sleep, his cheek pressed adorably up to the warm glass while you stifle giggles as his sleepy breaths fog the glass. Your situation was bearable with Tim, and you were really starting to enjoy his company.
“Red Robin we’ve got something” you watched Tim shoot up from his work as Bruce descended into the Batcave. “Barry Allen and the rest of Star Labs have reason to believe the frost machines aren’t actually underground, but their above us. Think pumping out cold air like an AC machine for the Earth” Tim nodded, sitting down at the batcomputer as he began typing rapidly. You were straining your neck against the glass to try to see what he was doing.
“Got it, try here, here, and here” Tim was pointing wildly at a map while Bruce sent out the coords. “Suit up, if we’re right this’ll be a real fight” Bruce said as he left to go get the others. After Tim was in his suit he came up next to your room with a grin. You looked at him with hopeful eyes, “you think this is it?” you asked Tim while he flashed you a hopeful smile. “I hope so y/n, if we’re lucky this will be it” he answered, taking a deep breath and clenching his hands into fists. “Well you need extra luck” you told him, he nodded then stopped short when you burst out of the room, throwing your arms around his neck, pulling him into a hug. “My hugs are super lucky” you whispered into his chest while his hands wrapped around your back. “I’ll take all the luck I can get” he mumbled, lowering his head into the crook of your neck. The hug was easy and perfect- until you started to shiver. Quickly Tim deposited you back into your room, turning up the heat.
“Guess I’m not hot enough for you” Tim snorted while you rubbed your shoulders. “Shut up dork, now go fix the world so I can give you a proper hug” you placed your hand against the glass again. With a nod he placed his hand to yours, “will do” he said, dashing off towards Bruce and Damian who were also all suited up.
“Y/n I must inform you they have in fact found the base and will be going into battle shortly” Alfred called from the computers while he monitored the team’s location. “Yes!” you shouted, pumping a fist in the air while you paced around your room.
The plan was clear, there were 10 giant AC machines pumping out the frost across the world, some heroes had been separated into teams each tasked with taking out their respective machine then any hero strong enough to lift the machines were in charge of bringing them to an undisclosed location on one of Bruce’s private islands for inspection and dismantling. Alfred had Bruce, Dick, Tim, and Damian’s vitals displayed on the screen as their suits were consistently monitoring them and you’d been craning your neck to keep track of the little bars. “god Alfie how do you take it? You can see every hit they take, every injury, you’re basically looking at it all going wrong!” you felt like tearing your hair out, watching the screen light up with every hit each boy took.
“You get used to it Ms. Y/n you must have faith that they’ve seen worse and can survive anything” Alfred answered cooly but it didn’t stop you from wincing everytime Tim’s bar lowered or lit up meaning he took a hit.
Over the comms you heard Bruce and Damian confirm their machine was sufficiently broken, as well as 8 of the other machines. As it turned out, Tim, Dick, and one of those annoying speedsters had been sent to the head machine, a few members of the league were at the other. You watched Tim take hit after hit, clearly him and Dick were struggling. “Alf is it just me or are Tim and Dick’s bars not going up” you were pounding at the glass of your room. Slowly Alfred nodded, abruptly standing up. To your shock he began moving around the cave, setting up what looked like a makeshift hospital room. “There will almost assuredly be some injuries after this battle. But how are you feeling Ms. Y/n as over half of the machines have been taken down” Alfred drew you away from the flashing bars as you realized you were feeling better, still not top shape but better than you’d been in days. “Yeah you’re right I’m definitely feeling better-”
“Hey Alfie Tim just got buried in snow any recommendations?” you heard Dick’s voice come over the speakers. Your head whipped to his bar which was flashing wildly as you shrieked. Alfred replied quickly, “Master Dick you must remove him immediately and wrap him with something warm as his suit cannot regulate him in freezing temperatures.” as he made his way back to the batcomputer, talking Dick through his next actions.
“Will do, he’ll be okay but he’s kinda a popsicle right now” Dick’s voice came over the comms again while you let out the breath you’d been holding in as you saw Tim’s bar sliding back up. Shortly after they were aided by the rest of the league, promptly taking out the final machine and finding the villains hiding inside.
Dick, Tim, and Damian returned to the cave shorty, Bruce was busy with league business interrogating the villains. Damian came in first, declaring he now hated the cold after how freezing that mission was. Following him was Dick who was walking with a slight limp as he called to Alfred explaining that he just twisted it when he dug Tim out of the snow. And last, Tim made his way into the cave. His hair was wet, clearly melted from being buried under snow. He was wearing a Star Labs sweatshirt and sweatpants as he held his waterlogged suit in his slightly shaky hands, and a towel was draped over his shoulders. “Alf you want my suit? Pretty sure I fried half the tech” he called as he shook his head, little water droplets flying from his hair. “I’ll see to it’s repair Master Tim” Alfred nodded, gesturing for Tim to place it next to him. “Also, might I recommend you spend some time with Miss Y/n as she is quite capable of warming you up” Alfred gestured towards your room before going back to examining Dick’s ankle.
Tim nodded in agreement, giving you a little wave as he stumbled into the room with you. Letting the relief flood your head you quickly brought him into a warm hug, focusing on pushing some of your energy forwards to warm him up. “Mhm” Tim’s eyelashes fluttered shut against your neck while he melted into your embrace. “You’re so cold” you whispered with a giggle. “Yeah and you’re really hot” Tim groaned in reply, though you could feel his lips curl into a smile against your neck. “I think you meant warm” you tried to ignore the butterflies having a rager in your stomach. “Hm no I said it right” Tim whispered in your ear making your eyes widen at his upfront response. “Oh, I- uh, thanks? I think you’re pretty cool- no not cool cuz like that’s the opposite of hot- yeah you’re-” you were silenced as Tim pressed his lips to yours. Your eyes shot open at the feeling of his ice cold lips pressed to yours but they quickly fluttered closed when his hand wrapped around the back of your head, pulling you deeper into the kiss. His lips quickly warmed up against yours making your breath hitch when he slipped a cold hand around your waist pulling you flush against him. His fingers felt like ice as they grasped your back but you couldn’t but melt into his touch.
You pulled away first, taking in gasping breaths while you couldn’t help but grin. “You warm yet?” you teased, pulling his hand away from your back and placing your hand in his, giving it a warm squeeze. “Mhm one more kiss” he pouted, leaning down to place a smiling kiss onto your lips while you scrunched your nose. “I should seriously freeze to death more often if it means I get to kiss you” Tim said while you rolled your eyes. “Or you could just not die and I might give you a good-job kiss?” you offered with a grin. “Will do” Tim nodded, giving your hand a squeeze.
“Goodbye oven!” you shouted, practically kicking the door open as you finally got to leave the cramped room behind. Just a day later the Earth had returned to average temperature and you were free. “I am SO ready to go home, not that I didn’t like it here” you said, giving Tim a little smile as Bruce return all your belongings after a little over a week in Bat-Solitude. “Come back soon though?” Tim piped up with a hopeful looks. “Definitely, I won’t give you the cold shoulder” you snorted at your own joke while Damian groaned, saying something about being happy he’ll be free of your puns.
Tim walked you out, chatting your ear off about his next cases and all the time he had to come see you, over the course of the frozen-adventure you’d found a best friend and possibly something more, maybe the oven was worth it after all?
“Okay, so I’ll see you in a couple days?” you grinned as Tim nodded. “Yup! Now before you go, I need another good luck hug- they definitely work wonders seeing as last time I got buried in snow” Tim laughed, wrapping his arms around you as he chuckled into the hug. “Not my fault you turned into a snowman Drake” You gave him a squeeze before pulling away, locking eyes with him. His hand slipped to your chin again, but this time you wrapped your hands around his neck, pulling him in for a goodbye kiss, loving the way sparks danced on your lips. Pulling out of the kiss as the car arrived Tim opened the door for you like the gentleman he is, giving your hand a squeeze.
“See you later hot stuff” Tim winked at you, shutting the door and waving as you drove away, shaking your head at his never ending puns, you smiled to yourself as soon as he was out of view, loving the idea that you’d get to tease that cute dork for the rest of your life.

Don’t Treat My Love Like a Habit Part Thirteen
Previous Part | Next Part | Masterlist Pairing: Santiago Garcia x Reader Rating: Mature (this may change) Warnings: Cursing; canon-typical violence (not terribly descriptive); flirting; pining Notes: Set before the movie. Not beta-read. Reina is Spanish for Queen. Happy New Year! 🥳 Summary: Pope and Alex had pulled a couple of stakeouts together in that time, and when neither had come back with black eyes or missing teeth -- in fact, when both had come back and neither had mysteriously ‘disappeared’, you’d taken it as a sign that things were improving.
Tumblr media
“I’ve got eyes on ya,” You said, watching Alex through the monitor. “Well, now I feel self-conscious. I knew I should’ve worn tighter jeans today,” Alex’s voice was quiet as it crackled through your earpiece. “Not a problem from my point of view,” Was Pope’s retort; he was only a few feet from Alex’s position. You rolled your eyes. The two of them had continued to be somewhat combative over the last couple of weeks, but it had defrosted slightly and taken a turn for the teasing. At least, Pope had stopped openly griping to you about him. He and Alex had pulled a couple of stakeouts together in that time, and when neither had come back with black eyes or missing teeth -- in fact, when both had come back and neither had mysteriously ‘disappeared’, you’d taken it as a sign that things were improving.
“Glad it hear it, Garcia. You know, I picked these with you in mind?” Alex answered, and you huffed a laugh, unable to help it. “You know, you two were bad enough apart, you’re insufferable on the same channel,” You teased. “Oh, ouch--” “He and I are not as bad--” “How dare you, Reina--”  “If anything I make it better--” Santiago and Alex hurried to correct you over one another and you groaned, “Alright, alright, I take it back, fuckssake! Eyes up, you’ve got a car approaching.” It had been a tip from one of Santiago’s informants that had gotten you there. When he’d told you that he had a new informant, you hadn’t gone out of your way to ask the questions that you usually would’ve asked. When Isabella had first come up, before she’d disappeared with your best (and only) lead at the time, you’d made fun of him a little, asked if she was hot, if he bothered to get dressed up for her, if they went to his place or hers. This time you’d just taken the information in the same way you did when the guy handed you a tequila shot - with one solid nod and a wince once he’d turned his head. Whatever feelings you had toward the methods Pope sometimes employed, now was not the time to take issue with them. The man was letting you stay in his apartment - sleep in his bed for goddsake. Besides that, the two of you had never been closer. It was beyond being around him so constantly. You felt like you understood Pope on an entirely different level now. “What’ve we got?” You asked as you watched the car pull to a stop on the live feed. “I am seeing… Three people in the car…No one’s making a move to get out,” Alex relayed. “Just give it a minute,” Pope grumbled. Neither you nor Alex replied, just waited for a few tense seconds. And then the passenger side front door opened. “Alright, hang on, hang on,” Pope was cautioning, even as you were working to enhance your stream. You froze, fingers over the keyboard as the picture became clear. “Guys,” You mumbled, “Is that-- Are you seeing--” “Yes,” Alex breathed, even as Pope hissed, “Fuck.” That was Camilo Hernandez. You’d been looking for the man for months. He was distinct, even on a grainy camera feed. “Guys,” You warned quietly, “We stick to the original plan. I know that this changes things, but it doesn’t change how many people we have at our disposal. I’m calling for backup now,” You added, fingers moving swiftly over the keys again, “But if they can’t get there in time--” “Understood,” Alex grumbled. Pope didn’t even answer you. You couldn’t imagine what was going through his head - and fuck, you wanted to ask, but you couldn’t bring yourself to. He needed to be focused on what was right in front of him. You were resolved to only speak up again if it was absolutely necessary - reinforcements were on their way, or another car pulled up. You watched as the other two people got out of the car - one of them being Pope’s informant. She was cute. You whacked the thought back down as suddenly as it appeared. There was no time for that, and the fact, while true, was not a helpful one. The three of them started toward a house not too far from where they’d parked. “I’m moving into position,” Alex warned through the comm. “Right behind you. How are we doing on reinforcements?” Pope asked. You glanced at the messages that had come through. “Eight minutes out.” “You can’t speed them up?” Pope growled. “If I could, I would,” You gritted out, leaning against the desk and watching as the two crept into position around the car. You held your breath as Alex slid under the car to place a tracking device. “Get out of there, ‘Brano, they’re coming back out,” Pope hissed. “I’m not finished--” “Alex, move--” You ordered as quickly as you could. But it wasn’t quickly enough. When you were on that side of the screen, it was never quickly enough. The feed was hazy and sluggish, the actions of the people unclear and moments behind what you were hearing. You balled your hands into fists as you heard gunfire, yelling, the squealing of car tires. You took in a shuddering breath as quiet fell on the other end. “Zambrano?” You finally dared to speak, “Garcia? Someone talk to me.” “‘Brano’s been hit.” --
The way that Santiago had delivered the news was flat, but you knew him better; his voice was tight with the fact, with worry. When you’d finally been able to leave, to meet the two at the hospital, you found Alex in one piece with a woozy ‘just-given-painkillers’ smile and his arm in a sling. The bullet hadn’t hit anything vital - it had passed through his abdomen; the stitches could come out in a week or two. Pope looked like he could’ve eaten the world twice over - his brow was drown low, in frustration or upset, you couldn’t tell; his jaw was clenched as if he was the one that had been shot. “I’ll get him home,” You told your boss quietly (because right now, that was what the man was to you - your boss; this was still work). He gave a short nod and hardly met your eye as he left the hospital room. You sighed, turning back to Alex and shaking your head. “It’s always something with you, isn’t it, ‘Brano.” “Gotta keep it interesting, Q,” He retorted, “Now help me stand up, the room feels like one of those spinny horse up-and-down rides.” “Carousel, ‘Brano,” You smiled in spite of yourself, in spite of the situation as you gave him your arm to steady himself, “A carousel.”
-- You didn’t make it back to your Pope’s apartment until very early the next morning - it was nearly 5:30; the sun had yet to rise. You’d gotten Alex to his apartment and stayed to get him settled. You’d made sure he’d had something to eat, helped him get changed into more comfortable clothing. You’d tucked him in, too, after he’d sworn up and down to call you when he woke up. You only left to check in at the office. The tracker was working. The damn thing that Alex had crawled under the car to place and nearly died working on was working. On the other side of town, while you, Pope, and ‘Brano had been in that situation, Diego’s team had hit a stash house and been able to seize a fair amount of product, cash, and several workers.  The night had viable leads, tangible results, a functioning tracker to show for it.
-- You moved around Pope’s apartment gingerly. You showered first, trying to rid yourself of the night's grime, taking twice as long, as if you could scrub off the feeling of helplessness that had lingered with you. You hadn’t heard from Pope all evening. You hadn’t reached out; you’d figured he’d have his own ends to wrap up, his own questions to ask of his informant, and you didn’t want to interrupt that...Situation. You stepped into Santiago’s room, peering around. You’d laid your pajamas out for yourself the day before, and they were still there, undisturbed on your side of the bed. You crept closer, towel wrapped tightly around yourself as you eyed where Santiago lay, back to you. You reached out, tugging your sleep shorts on. You eyed the tank top you normally slept in next. You were still a little damp from the shower, and you knew that you’d be chilly. You stepped over to his dresser, opening one of his drawers rather than yours and pulling out one of his few long-sleeve shirts. He wouldn't mind, right? They didn't get much use, anyway.
You dropped your towel and tugged it on, sighing at the immediate feeling of warmth and comfort that washed over you. You shut the dresser drawer gingerly before scooping the towel off of the floor and creeping back out of the room. Coffee. You’d make coffee, head back into the office to see how the tracker was doing and then get some food to bring over to Alex’s. That was the best course of action. You took yours and Pope’s mugs out of the dish drainer, pouring freshly brewed coffee into your mug. As you waited for it to cool a bit, you found yourself bracing yourself against the counter and closing your eyes. You were tired. It had been a long night. You hadn’t taken a moment to rest at Alex’s, more concerned with getting him situated so that you could follow up with the rest of the op. Of course, it was a relief that everything was running smoothly, but-- You glanced back as you heard a creak in the floorboard, your hand instinctively flying to your thigh, where you typically had your gun strapped. Of course you’d just showered - there was no gun to be found. “It’s just me,” Santiago’s voice was somehow soothing even when it was rough as sandpaper from sleep. You sighed quietly, nodding and straightening up to pour coffee into his mug as well. “That’s a relief. I was about to reach for the spatula.” You smiled as he chuckled and crowded up behind you. He curled his arms around you, his face pressing into your neck. “Your nose is cold,” You grumbled. “Give it a minute,” Was his muffled reply. You smiled.
“How are you feeling? Bout last night, I mean,” You clarified. Santiago took a moment to answer. And when he finally did, he mumbled, “We almost got him.” “I know. You’re gonna get him.” “We’re gonna get him. The dual raids were your idea.” “Yeah, yeah. But you guys did all of the heavy lifting.”  You glanced down, absently trailing a finger over one of Santiago’s arms where it was wrapped around you. “Your coffee’s getting cold.” “I can handle lukewarm coffee, Reina.” “...You’re cuddly first thing in the morning.” “Mm.” “Are you always this cuddly first thing?” “Mm.” You rolled your eyes as Santiago lifted his head, nudging his nose against the hinge of your jaw before he stepped away, leaning against the counter. That’s when you realized how… Well, how shirtless he was. You and Santiago always slept with your backs to one another, and you hadn’t exactly gone over to get a good look at him when you’d gone in to get dressed. Did he always sleep shirtless? You turned away as quickly as you had looked, not wanting to be caught out. You’d certainly gotten an eyeful. Whoever this informant was, she must’ve been less territorial than Isabella was. Santiago was hickey-free -- from what you could see, anyway. “How’s Zambrano?” Santiago asked after a few sips of coffee. “In one piece. He’s hopped up on pain meds and has eight stitches on his left side. He’ll be fine. He’s had worse,” You answered, warming your hands around your mug. You felt a tug on the hem of your shirt and glanced down to see Pope fiddling with it. Your eyes trailed up his arm to his face, giving him a bashful smile. “Uh… Ha, yeah, sorry. I took a shower and I was chilly so I kinda… Borrowed it.” You raised a brow as Pope tugged at the hem again. “You want it back?” You teased. “Would you hand it over right now if I asked?” Santiago’s eyes were as dark and as warm as the coffee he was sipping. You huffed out a shaky laugh, feeling yourself flush as you raised your own mug to your lips. He always did like to fuck with you; you took his flirting with a grain of salt. “I’m gonna head out soon, check on ‘Brano and see how things are at the office. Also, considering how picky you are, you’d probably just tell me I was taking it off wrong,” You added as you headed out of the kitchen. You were well into the hall when you choked on your coffee, hearing Santiago call after you, “I could show you how it’s done.” Tag list: @justanotherblonde23  ; @revolution-starter ; @emurlemur ; @badbitxhbuckybarnes ;  @supernaturalcat7

New gapless playback on Deezer HiFi eliminates noiseless breaks
Silence is for libraries, not your music. So, when those annoying pauses pop up in between tracks, consider it a thing of the past.
Now, with our new gapless playback, Deezer HiFi fans won’t need to fast-forward or wait for the next track to begin. You can listen to any high definition tracks, whether it’s your favorite live album or classical orchestra without any breaks in true CD quality.
“I’m constantly playing music at my house, especially when I invite my friends over. I can’t tell you how many times I had these awkward moments of silence while we all waited for the next track to come on. Gapless on HiFi allows me to focus only on the music,” said Benoit Terpereau, our VP of Product at Deezer.
Gapless playback is set by default, so HiFi users don’t have to update a thing! It’s available to our HiFi users around the world on all mobile, iOS, Android devices.*

After Effects
Very tenuously linked to Reflections although this actually comes before it in the time line.
Many, many thanks to @gumnut-logic for listening to my complaining over the last few days!
*********************************************************
Scott slumped on his bed and angrily threw his tie in the corner, as if it had been the cause of his bad day. It hadn’t of course, but sometimes the self-control he fought so constantly to maintain in front of his family meant that the only way to feel better was to take things out on inanimate objects. It had been 3 months since their father had gone missing but it was only today that the reality that he wasn’t coming back had truly hit home. The idea of a memorial service wasn’t Scott’s but once it had been mentioned it was impossible to ignore and so he had found himself caught up in helping to plan and organise something he really, deeply didn’t want any part of. He had felt that because he had been the one to make the call to end the search and restart operations he was unable to argue about the logic of having a service for someone they didn’t know for definite was gone. Thinking back on it later, he realised that it wasn’t so much that he wasnt sure about the outcome of the explosion of the Zero X, it was that he really didn’t want to be as certain as he was. And so here they all were, home again after the service and officially starting their lives with no parents to guide them.
He was exhausted after the day. It had been emotionally draining on all of them and they had all been keen to retreat back home afterwards to regroup as a family so he had flown them back to the island despite the fact that it would be nearly morning before they landed. Alan had slept most of the way home and Scott had scooped him up in his arms, carrying him up from the hangar just as his father had before him before carefully placing his baby brother in bed and sitting with him until he was sure that he was fast asleep once more. His already broken heart ached for the kid – only eleven years old and already an orphan. Adding to Scott’s worries was how on earth he was supposed to bring up his brother in a way that would make his dad proud. It was yet another thing on the seemingly never-ending list of unexpected responsibilities that had heaped themselves on his shoulders over the past 12 weeks which he was trying very hard not to think about.
Coming back to himself and shaking his head slightly to derail his thoughts from a track that he knew would end with him breaking down, he quickly decided that a run to clear his thoughts was exactly what he needed. Despite the late hour, he wasn’t ready for bed and he knew that even if he did go now he would just lie awake again as he had almost every other night since the accident. Throwing on some old clothes, he padded quietly out into the corridor, listening at Alan and Gordon’s doors to make sure that at least his two new charges were sleeping even if their older brothers were not yet. Without being told, he knew that John had retreated to his observatory as soon as they landed, chasing his beloved stars as the sky started to brighten from the inky black of night to the first blues of morning and Scott was certain that if he looked he would find him sleeping there again rather than in his bed, not to awaken until late in the morning. Grandma and Kayo were in their rooms, their doors both shut and with no light or sound coming from either. Virgil had disappeared, most likely to his studio after making sure 16-year-old Gordon was safely asleep for what was left of the night. Checking the whereabouts of what was left of his family had become habit for the eldest and he had found himself unable to even attempt sleep until he knew everyone was safe.
Without paying attention to where he was going, Scott’s feet took him through the house on a well-worn route. With his thoughts otherwise engaged on the events of the day, when he finally reached his destination and looked up he was surprised to find himself not outside on his favourite trail but in the hangar, staring at his little private jet – a smart little two-seater that he had bought with his father not long before, with the intention of using it to teach his youngest brothers to fly when the time came. Unable to resist the lure of the sky, he pulled on his flight suit and turned, catching sight of his dad’s personal jet sitting lonely and unused in its usual corner. He’d been studiously avoiding that side of the hangar for the last 3 months and seeing it forcefully rammed the truth home, sending a sharp stab through his chest. He faltered for a moment, suddenly unsure of himself before regaining control of his thoughts and, choosing to block reality out once more, he walked purposefully over to his plane and climbed in. The pre-flight checks centred and calmed him although the memory of his dad showing him how to do them when he first started flying all those years ago flashed into his mind, sending a second stabbing pain through his chest that he did his best to ignore as he started the engines and taxied out of the hangar.
“Scott…?” suddenly came Virgil’s concerned voice over the comms, no doubt alerted to his brother’s actions by the alarm that sounded in the house whenever the hangar door opened and jolting Scott out of his reverie.
“It’s OK, I’m just taking her up for a bit. I’m not going anywhere” Scott soothed. “I just need a bit of space after today.”
“OK then. Make sure you take it easy and don’t go too far. You’re clear for take-off” Virgil advised, knowing his tightly wound older brother’s need to escape for a while perhaps better than anyone.
Scott breathed a sigh of relief as the jet climbed effortlessly into the deep blue of the early morning. His natural habitat was the sky, as was the ocean for Gordon or the stars for John. For as long as he could remember he had longed to be airborne and as soon as he had that first taste of flight he felt most comfortable and relaxed amongst the clouds. It had been a special bond between father and son over the years and had informed every decision he had made, from what he studied at school to joining the air force to eventually leaving that dream behind to help form International Rescue. It was his place of solace and solitude, where he had worked out the answers to many of life’s problems and where he knew he would eventually find the calm that he so desperately needed.
However, it was anger that took over as Scott climbed above the clouds, and he tested the limits of the jet again and again, throwing it into steep climbs, dives and rolls. It had been there for 3 months but this was the first time he allowed himself to truly feel the bubbling hatred he felt, not just for the Hood but also for whatever idiot it was that built the Zero X in the first place and for the GDF for not being able to do their jobs and keeping the Hood from trying to steal something he so obviously would want. He seethed silently, anger masking his knowledge that every single aircraft had to go through the same procedures and that both he and his father had tested dozens of prototypes in their careers, pushing them beyond their limits with no serious incidents to report. The only difference here was that this was the one that took his dad away from him. Without warning, the anger he felt suddenly evaporated leaving him breathless and vulnerable enough that when the first wave of grief hit he was powerless to fight it. The defences against it that he’d fought so hard to erect since the accident crumbled under the onslaught and he felt the tears start to fall. Slowly at first, then faster and faster until his vision blurred and he had to take a hand off the controls to wipe them away in a futile gesture as more and more took their place. And how he wished the pain in his chest would go away – that one which seemed to simultaneously stab and ache. It had been bothering him on and off all day but now it seemed to choke him as he relinquished the aircraft to the autopilot and sobbed into his hands, gulping for air in between waves of grief he felt powerless to stop. He would be lying if he said that it was the first time he had broken down and cried for his father but it he had never allowed the desolation of his loss to overcome him so completely since that first day.
Way down below, Virgil sighed as he heard his biggest brother fall apart over the open comm line. He had watched with growing unease as the craft had been thrown around with increasing abandon, but as it levelled off and started circling above the island he sat back and allowed himself to relax slightly, despite his brother’s obvious distress. He knew Scott hadn’t given himself the time to grieve that he desperately needed; as usual, he’d thrown himself into making sure that everyone else was coping, burying his own emotions deep down where he didn’t have to deal with them until they became too much to bear and he ended up sobbing at 30,000 feet. He could well imagine what was going through his brother’s head as the very same thoughts had occupied his mind noisily and incessantly since the accident but however much he could empathise, the reality was that Scott had not simply lost his father. In one fell swoop, he had also gained so much responsibility that the younger man had to admit he was worried that what he was hearing was him cracking under the pressure of suddenly being the head of the family as well as being legally in charge of two businesses and two younger brothers, one of whom was Gordon. Virgil allowed himself a brief smile at that thought – Scott was going to go so grey, so quickly. Knowing that Scott would immediately push his own feelings away if he knew anyone was witness to his distress, he quietly muted his end of the comms channel so as not to disturb his brother, and sat back, continuing to monitor the flightpath. He had no idea how long Scott intended to fly for but he was damn sure he was going to give him the time he needed to get everything out his system without being interrupted. He just hoped that he would come back down of his own accord as he really didn’t want to have to try plucking him out of the sky in Two. Just as he was about to turn the open channel off he heard a small voice over the radio, nearly indecipherable from the sobs.
“I promise dad - I’ll keep them all safe for you. I’ll make you proud” Scott almost whispered, unaware that anyone could be listening in. And at that moment, Virgil knew that his role was going to be keeping his big brother safe, no matter what that entailed.
Slowly, the pain in Scott’s chest started to fade in its intensity and the tears that had threatened to completely overwhelm him slowed to a trickle. The sun’s first rays began to peek over the horizon, bathing the cockpit in a golden light and gently bringing the broken, weary man within back to reality. Taking control of the plane again he stifled a yawn and realised how tired he suddenly was. He had no idea how long he’d been circling his island home and he really, really wanted to be in his bed. Rubbing his eyes, he brought the plane around, in his haste losing altitude perhaps faster than he would usually choose to and landed neatly, taxiing into the hangar and quickly running through the post flight checks. Catching sight of himself reflected in the fuselage, he shuddered at the deep black rings circling his red, puffy eyes. Keen to not meet any stray brothers who would inevitably try to help, he took the less used service route up from the hangar to the main house and skirted around the main living area. Creeping as quietly as he could into his bedroom, he collapsed onto his bed still in his flight suit and was asleep instantly. Later that morning, Virgil smiled to himself as he checked on his still sleeping brother, relieved that he had finally found the release he needed and knowing that he would always be there to support him, whether he knew it or not.

i’ll stay
summary: you're very sick again and end back up in the hospital and peter rushes over because you're his world. (me rn bc i want peter to come visit me)
warnings: being in the hospital, oxygen tubes, needles, angst, fluff, 1.6k words
you weren't sure how it happened. you were doing fine one night, then woke up the next feeling like you were dying. you could barely breathe and your heart was going nutty. you could barely walk out of your room to tell someone and get to the car to go to the ER. you were so dizzy you fell in the hallway. you couldn't see straight. why? who knows. it just...happened. the worst part about it all besides feeling like shit, there was no diagnosis.
so you were currently laying in a hospital bed on your usual floor with your usual nurses and your usual grey beanie that you stole from peter. it was the middle of the night and your parents had left to go sleep, but you didn't mind it, that's always how it went. you were used to the hospital and used to being with out your parents. they had jobs and other things to tend to.
you closed your eyes slowly, letting the oxygen from your nasal cannula flow through your nose, assisting your breathing. your heart monitor was constantly beeping and though you were used to the sound and it served as white noise, you wouldn't be sleeping tonight. you entertained yourself by clicking through the various tv channels yet finding nothing of interest, it all being news or infomercials. plus the noise and brightness of the tv got too much for your hearing and vision so you just turned it off after ten minutes. so you just sat in bed, staring at the dark walls since there was no light outside nor in your room, hospital lights were just too bright.
then your beloved nurse meg came in to give you your daily medicine. yes, daily medicine that you woke up for at 2 am every night to take. "how ya doing y/n?"
you sighed, "not so great meg, not so great."
"i know. can i get you anything?"
"mmm maybe some ice cream?"
meg crossed her arms and scoffed at you, "it's 2 am, really?"
"really."
"i'll see what i can scrounge up," she said leaving the room after you swallowed some pills.
after she left you realized you hadn't told peter you were back in. he was usually the first person you told. not that you wanted him to know everything, but he asked because he cared about you and wanted to make sure you were okay. so you figured you'd text him. regardless of the fact that it was 2 am, the boy never slept. he was up most nights, took naps in the day apparently. you don't know how he functioned. in spite of that, he thought the same about you.
and of course, after texting him, 'i'm in again,' he immediately replied 'on my way.' the text had saddened him, no doubt. it hurt him that you hurt and that you were sick.
it was useless to tell him not to come to the hospital because you knew he'd come nonetheless. it was not visiting hours but apparently peter knew the night guard at the front and could get in anyways. when he left late after visiting you, the guard, frank, was always there and peter often held conversations with him. and being on good terms meant he could probably get in at 2 am to come visit you. so, you just texted him your room number.
peter arrived anxiously 15 minutes later. he entered through the front of the hospital and came face to face with frank.
"hey frank!"
"peter! what on earth are you doing here at this hour?"
"visiting y/n."
"oh she back in?"
peter nodded, frantically tapping his fingers on the welcome desk and frank was already writing him a visitors tag, "i'll let it slide, just this one time."
"thank you so much frank! you're the best!" peter replied pointing at the man after securing the tag. peter practically bolted to the elevators.
"ay! no running peter!"
peter slowed down and put his hood up on his grey hoodie, trying to 'hide' from frank. he got to the elevators and hit the button of your usual floor. he tapped his foot all the way up the short ride before getting out and quietly walking into the hallway to find your room. the hospital was weird at night. almost eerie. there was an occasional doctor or nurse in the hallway but other than that it was dead silent and a bit dark. he sneaked his way past the nurses station to get to your room at the end of the hallway.
"peter?"
peter stopped dead in his tracks like he just broke the law. he turned around and saw meg standing in the hall.
"hi meg," he said smiling with his puppy dog eyes, " 'm here to see y/n."
"i figured...you do know it's almost 3 in the morning though right?"
"right."
"which means it is not visiting hours."
"uh huh."
"so you should not be here."
"yeah but i just thought i'd swing by," peter gulped, "i was in the neighborhood?"
"i know you're not telling me you were walking around new york city at 3 am."
"well...ok i wasn't but y/n texted me and i'm really worried about her and i just thought—"
meg waved him off with a yawn and turned back to the nurses station, "whatever, you two better be quiet."
"yes ma'am," peter replied turning back down the hall to find your room. it was all the way at the end and he walked in to find you struggling with an ice cream sandwich wrapper.
"hey y/n/n!"
your eyes lit up at hearing your nickname. "peter oh my god i can't believe you actually came and got up here." the two of you started laughing as quiet as possible while peter shuffled over to your bed, kicking off his shoes and jumping in next to you.
" 'course i came!"
you smiled at him, you loved him so, so much. you held the ice cream sandwich up to him that meg had brought you. "mind opening this? i'm too wirey today," you said gesturing you the iv tubes and oxygen tubes.
"yes i will, if you give me half."
"deal."
peter easily unwrapped the sandwich and as you attempted to grab it from his hands his took a bite.
"mmm, wow y/n/n, this is great."
"hey! give that back!" you grabbed it back from him and took a bite of your own, sharing the ice cream sandwich. "this is good."
the two of you laid in bed together, finishing off the ice cream and talking. peter didn't ask you once 'what happened?' or 'what's wrong?' and that's what you loved about him. you've been asked those questions too many times to count and it gets frustrating telling the same story over and over again. he knew how to handle it. and he was there to make sure you were safe and happy, not to bombard you with questions. he only talked about it if you wanted to talk about it, he respected it because he knew he would never know what it was like.
you brought a hand over his body to squeeze him tight in a hug. "thank you for coming. it made me really happy."
"no problem," he hugged you back, lightly stroking your side to comfort you, something he knew you loved.
"i see you still have my beanie." (go read my other hospital imagines 'sickly lovely cuddles' and 'hospital prom' if u don't understand the beanie thing heheh)
"of course i do, what would i do with out it. it's like you're always here with me."
"good. you keep it."
"duh, i'm never giving it back."
he laughed at you and smiled and you just smirked and pulled his hoodie strings, tightening the hood around his cute little face.
"hey!" he yelled all muffled, "not nice."
you laughed now as he pulled his hood down. it was moments like these you cherished, when you almost forgot that you were even sick at all. sure you still felt like absolute shit but peter made you feel happier and more alive than ever. he truly cared about you.
there was an awkward moment of silence between you two, something that never happened before, as you sat there in bed cuddling. but you quickly sat up, feeling hot all of a sudden. "uh, it's getting late pete, you don't have to stay here all night. may is probably worrying."
peter sat up as well, mirroring your body and blushing, "oh may knows, it's fine...i'll stay."
you debated in your head for a second, feeling something new in your body, and it wasn't illness. and you just shook your head as a way to say 'okay.' you laid back down to get comfortable, heart rate slightly rising as he joined you again.
"can we just go to sleep?" you asked quietly.
"yeah, yeah sure."
you closed your eyes as you melted into his body, "thanks again, for staying."
"you don't have to thank me, i've got you."
he held you that night, falling asleep in the twin sized bed together and luckily the nurses didn't kick him out. and that night as he closed his eyes with you, he realized he loved you.

Let’s Go Home
Tumblr media
Requested by @atestmeez I hope you enjoy <3
Request: I want it to be more of a fluff but I feel like comforting a hard working and stressed out joong would be precious
Characters: Hongjoong x female reader
Words: 4.5K
 ~
Seonghwa stood in the doorway of Hongjoongs studio, the rest of the boys behind him, their eyes alight with worry. It wasn’t the first time Hongjoong had worked himself to the brink of death; and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. Seonghwa knew that fact very well, but looking at his friend stare blankly at the monitor; eyes sunk in and exhaustion evident, he wished Hongjoong would finally recognize his limits.
“You need to go home Hongjoong,” Seonghwa managed to grab his attention from the monitor that held one of their many new tracks.
Hongjoong gave him a glance over, eyes trailing over the boys behind him, before going back to clicking away at the keyboard, “I have to finish this.”
“Hyung… you’ve been spending way too much time here,” Jongho said cautiously, though his concern for their leader outweighed any of his fear, “You even spent the night here yesterday.”
“I’m fine!” Hongjoong’s voice raised and then he paused, glancing at the males who gave him a wide eyed look. His voice was much softer the next time he spoke, “I promise I’m fine. I’ll get this song done and then I’ll be back at the dorm.”
“And then the next song, and the next song and the song after that,” Yeosang huffed, face barely visible from the cluster of males in the doorway, “You need a break hyung. All of us do. We’ve got a couple weeks, not all of them can be spent working.”
A flicker of annoyance crossed Hongjoong’s face, “I said I’m fine.”
“You’re not.” Seonghwa said gesturing towards the array of caffeinated drinks, “It’s not healthy to run on pure Red Bull and Starbucks.”
“I’m finishing this song tonight, no matter if I need a ton of caffeine. We’ve got a month and this is one of our biggest tracks.” Hongjoong growled, his irritation beginning to take root. He swallowed harshly, his body begging for actual food and drink rather than the caffeine that took up majority of his bloodstream, and turned back towards his monitor, “I’m not letting Eden down on this one.”
Seonghwa understood at that point, why his friend was so antsy, so persistent on pulling all nighters. The weight of being a producer and the leader was heavy on his shoulders. A sigh passed through the oldests’ lips as he gestured for the boys to leave the room, casting a glance back to Hongjoong who didn’t look away from the screen. “One song, Hongjoong, and then you go back home.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Hongjoong’s voice was hollow as his bandmates left the small studio.
Once outside the room, Mingi arched a brow, perplexed at Seonghwa’s behavior, “You’re not really going to let him stay here, again...are you?”
Seonghwa scoffed at Mingi’s remark as he brought out his phone, “Do you think that little of me? Of course I’m not.”
“Then what are you planning?” Yunho asked, head tilting to the side in confusion. He had seen Hongjoong slip into one of these phases before and pull himself out of it in a week; but this one seemed to be the worst of them all. “We couldn’t get him out of there… what possibly could? Unless you’re planning on calling the management-”
“He’ll be out in seconds if Y/n is here,” The small smirk on Seonghwa’s face made the other members look at each other in uncertainty.
“Y/n?”  San pondered, pure wonder on his face. “How is Y/n going to get him out of there?”
“Cause Hongjoong loves Y/n more than us,” Yeosang rolled his eyes, understanding what Seonghwa was thinking, “He literally melts in her presence.”
“And she’ll knock some sense into him more than we ever could,” Jongho nodded in agreement though his eyes revealed he was a little relieved.
“I’m calling her right now… and then we just have to hope for the best,” Seonghwa sighed as he found your number and pressed call.
You were lounging on your couch, a plate of snacks on your lap as you skimmed through the countless channels. There was never anything fun to do on Tuesday nights. Hongjoong was at work, you had work in the morning, and frankly, you didn’t feel particularly adventurous to go outside at near midnight by yourself. A small huff of annoyance left you as there was, once again, nothing good to watch. You tossed the remote to the side and flopped back so your eyes faced the ceiling. Maybe you could count the stains that lingered on the white roof instead of forcing yourself to go to bed.
The ringing of your phone made your eyes snap away from the spaghetti sauce that had somehow managed to make a mark on your ceiling. It was probably Mingi and San, the two could never control their excitement- though you weren’t sure if it was enough for a ceiling stain quite like that. You reached for your phone on the table and blinked a few times at the caller ID.
“Seonghwa?” You answered, the bewilderment clear in your voice, “Why are you calling me at midnight?”
“Happy to hear from you too Y/n,” His voice rather morose despite the small laugh he gave, “I hope I didn’t wake you up?”
“No, you didn’t…” You sat the plate of food off to the side and stood up, “Seonghwa, what’s wrong.”
“Hongjoong’s a mess… to put it lightly,” Seonghwa said and dread began to seep into you, making you think the worst of thoughts, “He’s not dying or anything, but he hasn’t left his studio in days. He still won’t leave his studio. We can’t get him to come home.”
“He’s overworking again?” You sighed, already making your way to the door where your shoes and keys were. The boys had told you of your boyfriends unhealthy work habits, how much of a workaholic he really was and the amount of times he had locked himself in the studio. You knew this comeback would be a hard one; and it didn’t surprise you that the boys were calling you in for help.
“Yeah and we can’t reason with him. We were hoping you could help?” Seonghwa’s voice was pleading and you knew how much all of them were worried for their leader. It was sweet.
“I’ll be there in ten minutes.. Maybe fifteen.” You said, locking up your apartment before racing off to your car.
“Just text us when you’re here and one of us will let you in.”
That’s how you ended up in front of the KQ building, a bag of snacks in your hand and a whole world of worry in your heart. Seonghwa was true to his word, because as soon as you sent here Wooyoung was already bounding through the door.
“Hi Y/n!” He grinned and you could only laugh at his childlike behavior.
“Hello Wooyoung,” You smiled back as you walked into the building, the harsh light making you squint. It was a big difference from your dark home and car, even the convenience store down the street.
“All the guys are in the practice room-” He paused for a second and the excitement on his face was washed away in an instant, “Well... besides Hongjoong of course.”
You knew Wooyoung was very empathetic and constantly worried about his members. To him, they were his family. You gave his shoulder a comforting rub with your free hand, “Don’t worry about Hongjoong. He’ll be alright.”
“I know but… I’m still worried about him.” Wooyoung frowned, playing with the rings around his fingers, “He works himself so hard all the time and then he just… crashes. I get why he works so hard- and I’m really thankful don’t get me wrong! But… He just needs a break.”
“Like all of you do,” You gave him a small, comforting smile as you came to stand in front of the practice room’s door. Even if Wooyoung was constantly cheerful and upbeat, you could see the exhaustion wearing on his features. You were sure the other boys looked no better. Comeback, tour, comeback- the cycle was never ending and they all deserved a small break. “I will take care of Hongjoong, as long as the rest of you take care of yourselves, okay?”
“You’re the best Y/n,” He chuckled and his eyes shone with appreciation.
“I know I am.” You rolled your eyes, even if you heart fluttered a little, and ruffled his hair. The young ones of the group felt like they were your own; you constantly took care of all of them as best you could. Sometimes Hongjoong would joke that you paid them more attention than him. Together, the two of you walked into the practice room to find the other six boys spread across the floor looking tired and worried.
“Y/n’s here!” San cried with a smile, jolting up from his spot on the floor  and startling some of the other members as well.
You gave him a small smile, and gestured to the main bag of food in your arms, “And I brought snacks for you all.”
Mingi and Yunho were up in an instant, coming to your side like dogs begging for food. “You shouldn’t have Y/n.”
“Just eat.” You handed the bag over to Yunho who wasted no time in rummaging through its contents as you turned to meet the tired eyes of Seonghwa. You had never seen the older male look so worried, not even when Jongho insisted he could jump from your balcony to your neighbors. It was common knowledge that he and Hongjoong were great friends; and it probably hurt him to see Hongjoong in such a state.
“Where is he?” You asked, voice quiet as you watched Seonghwa rub his face tiredly.
“Studio.”
“I’ll take care of him, you just get them-” You gestured to the boys who were happily munching away on the snacks you had brought them, “home and taken care of. Don’t worry about Hongjoong, okay?”
He gave you a small nod, though there was gratitude in his eyes, “Thank you, Y/n.”
“I haven’t even talked to Hongjoong, so don’t thank me yet.”
You set off for his small studio, you having been there countless times to check out new tracks Hongjoong was nervous or immensely excited about. To think the room he loved was beginning to feel like a prison made you frown. There was always pressure on your boyfriend; for music, for his group, from his management. It seemed he never had a break but nevertheless, he didn’t complain. That’s something you admired and loved about him; how he just did what needed to be done no matter the consequences- but now it seemed to be hurting him.
You took in a deep breath as you stood before the wooden door. In sloppy writing, no doubt made by the boys themselves, was the words “Hongjoong’s Studio” with a little minion drawn besides it. The love they had for their leader was evident, and the love he had for them even more so; as he could have easily took it down and replaced it with something more professional. You had to pull Hongjoong out of the little pit he had dug for himself; you owed it to the boys more than anything.
The door creaked opened and it allowed you your first look a Hongjoong in a week. Even with his back facing you, you could tell he was exhausted by the way his shoulder hung and how his hair was sticking up in all directions. You stepped into the room fully and shut the door softly behind you, creating a little rattle throughout the room which made Hongjoong sigh.
“Seonghwa, I told you I was just going to finish-” His voice faltered as he stared at you, who was definitely not Seonghwa. “Y-Y/n?”
“Surprise?” You said, though your eyes roamed his delicate features in shock. The skin underneath his eyes was dark and discolored and his eyes themselves were tired and seemed to barley stay open, with smudges of ink at their corners. He looked so very small; a contrast to the man who was usually in his place.
“Why-” His voice cracked, from lack of use, and he coughed, “Why are you here?”
You have him a sad smile as you sauntered over to him, taking in how hunched his shoulders were and the jittering of his hands. The cups of coffee and cans of energy drinks besides him were probably the culprit to his uneasiness. You stopped right before him and brushed away some of the bangs that were falling into his eyes, him leaning into your touch, “Why do you think I’m here, Hongjoong?”
“Seonghwa called you,” he mumbled, letting his head rest in the hand that now cupped his cheek, “didn’t he?”
“Of course he did,” You said, mentally preparing yourself from the argument that was to come, “You can’t stay in here all week.”
“I have to.”
“Do you really?” You asked raising a brow as he leaned back from your hand, meeting your fiery eyes with his weary ones. “You’ve gave this studio a few solid days, nonstop; I’m sure it can spare you for a few hours of sleep.”
“I’ve slept,” He huffed, though his voice was weak, “I just did couple of hours ago.”
“What in your chair or on the ground?” His silence was enough of an answer and you sighed, crouching down so you were eye level with him; your hands cupping his cheeks gingerly so he would look at you when you spoke. “Stop overworking. I can tell you’re on the brink.”
There were small tears forming in his eyes and he turned his head away as he spoke, unable to meet your gaze, “I have to Y/n.”
“Why?”
“I can’t let anyone down, they need me to finish this song. I can’t disappoint them all. A few sleepless nights doesn’t matter in the long run!” His frustration was evident as he rubbed a hand down his face and you let him continue to speak, knowing he was finally releasing all his built up irritation. It didn’t matter much that it was at you. “They need all these songs by the end of the week so we can have this comeback! I can’t just sleep and sit there knowing there's work to be done. Eden is counting on me to get this done… and dammit i’m going to finish it.”
“Eden wouldn’t care if you took a night to yourself,” You said softly, hands gently grasping onto Hongjoong’s that wouldn’t stop shaking. “You’re no good if you can’t function properly, without caffeine.”
He scoffed and turned his eyes back towards the monitor, but he didn’t shake your hands off of him. “I can function just fine without caffeine.”
“Is that why there’s so many Starbucks cups here?” You snorted, eyes wandering over the countless cups, “You’ve had to have spent at least a paycheck on all of this coffee.”
“The company paid for it.” He mumbled and you shook your head in astonishment or amusement, you didn’t know.
“Well at least you didn’t waste any money over all of this,” You mused and took a deep breath, clutching onto your boyfriend’s hands a little tighter. “Hongjoong look at me.” His eyes shifted over to your own, an abashed look in them despite his stoic face. “Do you really want to be here, right now?”
He stayed silent for a moment before his gaze slipped down to your intertwined hands. He knew exactly where he’d rather be but he was too prideful to admit it.
“Hongjoong, do you really want to be here.”
“I don't want to disappoint anyone Y/n.” His voice was quiet, barley above that of a whisper as he absentmindedly traced your knuckles with his thumb.
“I can promise you that no one, not even God above, is disappointed in you or will ever be.” You said, matching his quiet tone as you watched frustrated tears begin to fill his perfect eyes. You had never seen Hongjoong break down before and it was one of the most heartbreaking sights.
“I’m really tired Y/n.”
The weak words made your heart split in two. Hongjoong never complained; about work, about you, about life and this was the first time he had really spoke honestly about something. You couldn’t help but reach forward and engulf him in a hug, your arms wrapping around his shoulders and your hands finding a place in his hair. All he could do was nuzzle in close to your neck, savoring the first feeling of comfort he had felt in weeks. You could feel stray tears fall against your thin shirt and all you did was stoke his hair, humming ever so softly as you felt him beginning to relax.
“Do you want to go home, love?” You whispered against his head, after a few minutes of holding him, and he nodded ever so slightly in response. Reluctantly, you pulled away from him and brushed a few tears that were still stuck to his cheeks. He looked better though, despite his red and puffy eyes, he looked much better.
“Let’s go than,” You said, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead before you stood up fully, “I have your favorite drink and snacks in the car.”
He nodded along, holding your hand tightly as you dragged him towards the door of the studio. The pair of you didn’t talk as you walked through the building and out towards your car, the need for words trivial. You led Hongjoong to your car, parked neatly on the sidewalk and let him get in. You had made sure to buy all of his favorite snacks and his favorite drink before you came; knowing that he would need some cheering up and actual food. From what Seonghwa had told you about previous episodes; he would only consume the minimum amount of food needed and then binge on caffeinated drinks.
“Just eat,” you finally said as you focused on backing out, eyes alert for anyone out in the dead of night, “And drink some of that water in the bag too, not just what I got you.”
A small smile graced his lips as he rummaged through the bag from the convenience store, “You’re acting like my mom.”
“Someone has to make sure you don’t accidentally kill yourself.”
“I wasn’t going to die from three nights of no sleep…” He trailed off as he fought with the cap of the water bottle.
“No you’d die from lack of water and good food.” You rolled your eyes and kept your gaze focused on the road, “I’m fairly sure your bloodstream is straight coffee at this point. Now drink up, as much as you hate to admit it, H2O is good for you.”
All you got was a scoff in reply but you could see him down the entire bottle out of the corner of your eye, looking like he hadn’t had a drop of water in months. What in the world had this boy been doing to himself over these past couple of days.
Upon reaching your apartment, Hongjoong looked like he had fallen asleep against the window. His eyes fluttered closed and then every so often they would open, like he was fighting the sleep he so desperately needed. You shook your head at him and turned off your car, reaching over the seat to clean up the mess of bottles and bags. The action seemed to wake him up and he rose up dazed as you packed away the final bottle he had set down haphazardly.
“This isn’t the dorms,” His voice was raspy and much lower than normal.
“You really think I’m going to send you home with all those kids?” You laughed a little and pushed open the door, “We’re at my house. Now come on, you look like you’re about to fall asleep any second.”
He just compiled and got out of the car, following you like a dog up the steps to your apartment. It wasn’t like this was the first time he had been here; but still it made you nervous. You fumbled with the keys for a few moments and eventually got the door, opening your apartment to exactly the way you had left it. The kitchen light was on, the TV was still bright and your plate of messy snacks was still stuck to the coffee table. You made your way to the kitchen, as Hongjoong took his shoes off at the door, and set down the bag of items on your counter taking a quick glance over to your boyfriend.
His eyes glanced around your home and a small frown adorned his features as he caught sight of the food scattered on the coffee table, “Did you just up and leave to go get me?”
“I was out the door before Seonghwa even finished the call.” You began walking towards your room and heard Hongjoong’s soft footsteps follow behind you. You had laid out some of the clothes you had wanted to give back to him on your desk, and thankfully they were there; cleaned and folded. You picked up the pair of basketball shorts and the grey hoodie and handed it to him, as he still looked at you with a face full of conflicted emotions. “Go get changed and cleaned up… and please brush your teeth you smell like straight espresso.”
A laugh flowed out of him as he followed your directions, heading straight towards the bathroom out the left of your room. You let out a sigh of relief, at managing to get him out of the studio and eating some proper food. Even the boys couldn’t get him to do that in the past couple of days, it was a feat to be at least minusculey proud of.
You flopped down onto your bed, already adorned in a hoodie and shorts, and brought out your phone. The boys were probably worried sick about their leader and you couldn’t just leave them without telling them where or how he was. You sent Seonghwa a simple he’s with me before deciding to scroll through your social networks, waiting for Hongjoong to finish up. It took him a while, but eventually he came back through your door frame; adorned in a hoodie a size to big and with water droplets still clinging to his face. In that moment, he looked so young and so old all at once.
“Any more demands for me tonight?” He mumbled as he came to stand next to your bed, rubbing his still red eyes with the sleeve of his sweatshirt.
You smiled up at him and set your phone aside, moving so that you could crawl under the covers, “Just go to sleep.”
“I can do that.”
He pulled himself underneath the mounds of blankets that covered your bed right until he was next you. His arms snaked their way around your waist, pulling you close enough against him you could feel his breath as it tickled your nose. The once coffee scent had now been replaced by something close to mint and you were thankful.
You watched as his eyes trailed over your face stopping at certain features, as if he was memorizing them. Eventually they came back to your eyes, where they stopped and lingered as he spoke, “Thank you.”
A small smile made its way on your face as you wrapped your arms around his torso, “I didn’t do anything.”
“You did a lot,” He said, leaning his head against yours as his eyes fluttered shut, eyelashes brushing against his cheeks. “I would have withered away in that studio without you.”
“I’m sure Seonghwa would have beat your ass before it came to that point.” You brushed some of the hair that was falling against his face. For the first time today, he looked truly relaxed. There was no tension in his face and his breathing was soft and solid, a calming noise to your ears.
His lips twitched up at the corners, “I’m glad you’re the one who dragged my sorry ass out of there instead of him. He would have thrown away all my minions.”
“I’m glad you think I’m not so cruel.” You said softly, trailing your hands down his jaw until they came to rest on his chest, rising up and down at a steady pace.
His hot breath ghosted across your forehead as he curled in, nestling his nose against your head. “You would have just held them until I got my act together… He would have burned them.”
You chuckled at his change in mood and tilted your head upwards, causing him to open his eyes. He looked down at you with such a fondness that made your heart race and a blush to rise on your cheeks. It didn’t matter how long you had been with him, he always made you giddy. With a smile on your lips, you reached up a pressed a feather light kiss against his lips. It was soft and incredibly simple but yet the kiss still left you weak. Maybe it was the way you both smiled into it or the way he softly caressed your cheek as the both of you pressed your lips against each other with a little more urgency. When you pulled away from him you were breathless, because even it it had only been a few second; Hongjoong never failed to make you so.
“Go to sleep Joongie,” You said, pulling yourself close to him and resting your head against his chest. You could hear his heartbeat, once calm now a bit more erratic.
He nodded against your head and pulled you flush against him,  fingers tracing patterns on the skin of your back. “Yeah… I’m tired Y/n.”
“I know love, just go to sleep.” Your voice was soft as he continued you trace the shape of your spine, adding in little circles here and there.
“How can I be so sure you’ll be here when I wake up?” His voice was laced with sleepiness, no more than a quiet drawl in the dark of your bedroom.
Your lips twitched up at his playful remark and you shook your head, curling even closer towards him, “Because I promise I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

Five Feet Apart: Stella Grant [ESTJ]
UNNOFFICIAL TYPING by anonymous *SPOILERS* (Based on the book, but using movie images).
Functional Order: Te-Si-Ne-Fi
Tumblr media
Judging Functional Axis:
Extroverted Thinking (Te) / Introverted Feeling (Fi)
Stella needs to have control over everything, all the time. She constantly monitors Will to be sure he’s doing his treatment correctly — Not because she cares about him (at least not at first), not because she has to, but because seeing someone with the same condition as her doing everything wrong makes her extremely anxious. She builds an app to track her medication and takes pride on it. Stella spends most of the book either avoiding her feelings or asking to be alone when she realizes she has to deal with them. She never talks about her sister’s death, not even on her YouTube channel. She simply pretends it didn’t happen when around others, but suffers silently.
Tumblr media
Perceiving Functional Axis:
Introverted Sensing (Si) / Extroverted Intuition (Ne)
Stella constantly associates things with moments she had spent with her sister, or with her friends. She gets extremely nervous in one of her surgeries, because it was the first one she had to go through without Abby to calm her down. She is methodical and organized, never changing routines until Will shows up. She is reluctant to try new things until she loses her best friend (that also had CF), realizing life is short, especially for her (“All this time I’ve been living for my treatments, instead of doing my treatments so that I can live. And I wanna live!”).
Tumblr media
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
House Traits: wit, intelligence, creativity, and wisdom.
Stella is all about seeking meaning in her life. She spends time philosophizing on what happens after death (she even puts that on her to do list!). Stella uses her creativity to convince Will to go on a date with her, her curiosity to leave the hospital and see the lights, her intelligence to study all of Shakespeare’s works, learn how to play piano and speak fluent french, all because she finds it interesting to know a little bit about everything. Stella wants people to know more about CF, because she believes it’s important, which is why she created her channel in the first place.
Tumblr media
Enneagram: 1w9 so/sp
Tritype: 127 The Teacher [1w9 2w1 7w6]
Stella wants to do everything perfectly, otherwise she’s “bad”. She is extremely critical on herself and others, but tries her best to avoid conflict and easily makes people sympathize with her. Her 2 fix makes her helpful. Her 7 fix makes her avoid all the bad things that happened in the past, being positive for her family and always looking excited and hopeful on her vlogs. She is curious, quick, friendly, sympathetic and wants to help others solve their problems in the most efficient way possible.

Electronic Harassment & Directed Energy Weapons
Electronic Harassment and Mind Control
Public Disclosure Notice
Directed Energy Weapons
Sonic Weapon Warning
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcDslisL3C9pbGmkKIl0tcA
Certain groups have the ability to monitor your thoughts, speak to your mind remotely, and apply energy to your brain in an effort to make you feel a certain way or motivate you in a manipulated direction. All of this is done wirelessly from a distance with directed energy.
A great deal of people have complained to authorities about this only to be turned away without a report or documentation, or direction to go for assistance. In fact, they have been made to look delusional to legitimate law enforcement organizations and doctors, and mocked by them for seeking help and warning them and the public of the existing dangers.
The attacks begin and are disguised with the symptoms of a “Mental Illness”. People that are targeted are provoked, informed they are being targeted and then left helpless to explain to family, friends, law enforcement and doctors that they are the victim of a psychological attack with a weapon the public is not aware of.
Intelligent targets look to the internet for answers to discover they are the recipient of “Electronic Harassment”. EH is an attempt to describe the attacks as harassment, when in fact it is an attack with mind control exercises embedded. Involuntary subjects are manipulated with directed energy weapons from afar to achieve unbiased results. Their intentions are disguised by appearing like a nuisance, Electronic Harassment, which distracts and misinforms the target and public that they hope to achieve total control of the ability to manipulate your mind as they please.
In an effort to further disguise the intention of Mind Control, some of the source of the attacks are attributed to “Gangstalking”, which is the false belief that a group of individuals is stalking, sabotaging and terrorizing your life. It is a good example of misleading or false information. Gangstalking is a major subject on the internet, when in fact it is a perpetuated falsehood. They have the ability to mimic voices and create sounds and use these abilities to construct uncomfortable scenarios with people within earshot, usually neighbors. They instigate disagreements and perceived conflicts, that cannot be resolved because they are an implanted figment of their imagination. Anybody that has access to a weapon of this ability, would never risk getting caught and exposed coming anywhere near someone they are targeting. The targeted person is unaware of the capabilities, and assigns blame to gangstalking.
Electronic Harassment and Gangstalking serve to misinform the public and the Targeted Individual of the intention and source of the harassment. This prevents medical professionals and law enforcement from adequately addressing and assisting in the Targeted Individual’s needs. Furthermore, the disinformation keeps the people responsible, the source of the crime, from being exposed, stopped and prosecuted.
Electronic harassment disrupts the flow of society and can incite violence. The number of domestic terrorism incidents has increased exponentially recently and are being conducted by American citizens rather than religious fanatics. The only thing capable of aggravating a person to a point where they would want to incur so much damage are Directed Energy Weapons. These people, in essence, have been stripped of all that is important to them, their lives, are being held hostage and are going out in a blaze of glory because they have no place to turn. They have had their lives and dignity taken from them, and no one is available to help them.
As a result, the best and only defense against these attacks is a thorough awareness, sound understanding of the capabilities, a reliable supporting network and a free flow of information. Unwitting people can be rendered unstable, making society less safe for everyone.
What needs to be done is a coordinated effort to organize the victims into a group to rally lawmakers to make a difference and bring about change. People have tried long enough to individually bring about change to no avail. The people capable of making a difference will not do so until they are approached by strength in numbers, a group they cannot ignore.
Furthermore, the medical community is not appropriately educated as to how to address the needs of the people that have been targeted. Medical professionals are not trained to distinguish between mental illness and a simulated mental illness, so they end up incorrectly treating their patients.
One easy way to test for the difference between Electronic Harassment and mental illness, is to simply ask the person whether the number of different voices they hear at any given time varies. Mental illness can vary from one to five. Electronic Harassment victims, or targeted individuals, always hear 2 different voices constantly at any given time.
Should you encounter any of these issues, I have conducted a review of the related websites listed at the end of this blog. They provide as much information and advice as possible, but beware, in some cases way too much information. There is not much assistance available. Some of the information available on the internet is misleading, incorrect, intimidating and scary. It is important to read verified information, rather than speculation.
There are also online petitions and newsletters that can be signed up for to start getting involved. Please develop your own independent opinion by verifying what you hear before taking anything for granted. A web of disinformation and misinformation exists to confuse, terrorize and mislead. Some of the owners of the sites may be unwittingly spreading the wrong information and some may be planted to lead readers in the wrong direction by enabling misinformation through peer pressure.
What you need to know before proceeding:
Electronic Harassment is another term for attempted Mind Control. They are disguising their objective with harassment.
Gangstalking and Organised Stalking is not real, a constructed perception, and an implanted figment of the imagination. No one comes remotely close to your physical location. Voices and noises are mimicked and odd occurrences are claimed by your harassment.
Microwave burns are a ricochet off your brain and not a microwave potato gun hitting you through a wall next door. They trigger your brain to heat your body in strategic locations.
Any implants found are not necessarily associated with the harassment because everything is wireless. Not enough is known about the science to convince anyone effectively that an implant is related to electronic harassment.
Intelligence Agencies and the Government are not responsible for electronic harassment because of the liability. The blame or fault lies with private entities or contractors. The government may be complicit by ignoring complaints made by harassed citizens.
Terminology
Associated Terms
Here is a list of associated terms to research to familiarize yourself with the issue:
Electronic Harassment
Targeted Individual
Gangstalking
Perp or Perpetrator
Mind Control
Redefining Associated Terms
A better way of understanding the the terms are shown below. I would change the terminology from:
Perps to Stalkers or Twerps
Electronic harassment to Wireless Harassment
Gangstalking to successfully directed paranoia or Electronic or Wireless Stalkers
Targeted Individual seems to be the best description
Sonic Weapon
The American consulates in Cuba and China were hit with the same type of weapon used or associated with “Electronic Harassment”. They complained of non-verbal attacks with a high pitch ringing in their ears. They classified the weapon as a Sonic Weapon and then backtracked by saying it wasn't a weapon at all, but rather an insect.
I experience the same high pitch noise, except my symptoms go far beyond that. The difference, is that they actually speak to me in an effort to create maps and get my brain to be more receptive to further attacks. They can apply energy to my brain to manipulate any part of my body to do whatever they want. It is miserably synthetic!
Furthermore, they can and have made my eardrums rotate in circles, scraping the sides of my inner ear as they went around. It was excruciatingly painful! So painful that they called it “one of those times” attacks. I usually threaten to go to the emergency room and complain of a Sonic Weapon when they mess with my ears which seems to calm things down most of the time.
Recently, the news tried to blame the source of the attacks on crickets. The Asian governments have come out with an effort to utilize the technology to assist the public and their country. Our government, or the people responsible for the news, hides the technology and blames the attacks on an insect, which is very disappointing.
Overall, the unwanted attack on the American consulates and myself is not a Sonic Weapon or a cricket, but rather a Directed Energy Weapon that moves and operates at sonic speeds. They can pry into your mind to see what you are thinking, communicate wirelessly with you, and apply or deprive your mind of energy to manipulate it as they see fit.
How to Stop Electronic Harassment
In order to stop Electronic Harassment, follow the web of disinformation and track the financial support. Then, connect the patents to the groups financing the flow of misinformation. Every website is full of misguided or misleading information to protect those that are responsible and make people appear delusional. Moreover, the conference calls are scripted and controlled by the moderator to monitor the subject matter and mislead targeted individuals. Hire private investigators to investigate the people moderating conference calls and website owners responsible for the false information. They promote useless and intimidating information, exposing themselves and leaving a documented path to the source of the harassment.
They are designed to act as a net of disinformation to keep those that are targeted helpless and confused. Track the bank accounts to monitor outside deposits and connect the patents to the people making the deposits. Investigating the sites and moderators can be done properly and successfully by a good private investigator or uncorrupted public administration.
Furthermore, the “TI Community” is set up as a peer pressure group to reinforce the false notions of gangstalking, implants, shielding and unconfirmed conspiracies. The conference calls and forums are full of people who are voraciously concerned and adamantly insist that gangstalking is real, implants are the source of the harassment and shielding actually works consistently over time. They quickly and viciously attack anyone who disagrees, and when all else fails, insist people with different opinions are working for the people responsible for the harassment.
The people responsible for Electronic Harassment work for private contractors so tracing the flow of funds generating the web of disinformation would give a clear and documented path to the structure of their program and people paid to harass innocent citizens and ruin their lives. I look forward to the day that the intelligence agencies stop turning a blind eye, turn on the independent contractors and use them as an example by prosecuting them publicly.

as someone whose spent the entire year recovering from a major (and kinda traumatic) major surgery from late 2020, trying to retrain myself to take my self care walks in the afternoon each week day, or just generally use workout things like our old elliptical machine, has been hard. what made me start doing all this again was buying a cheap fitness watch that’s decked out with a step counter and heart rate monitor etc. all i focus on is getting my 10,000 steps day instead of the calories burnt or anything to do with weight.
and also. in general, it took me literal years to grasp that exercise was actually good for me, considering like op said, it’s tied to being a moral failing towards being non-athletic. for me, anything to do with gyms or personal trainers or athleticism, reminded and still reminds me vividly of school sport (more high school sport though bc the teachers are more aggressive), where i constantly refused to participate due to what i call “competitiveness rhetoric”- even on a personal level.
i hated the fact that i had to set “goals” to meet and to somehow “push” myself to do those goals… much like my high school PE teachers literally screaming at me and the rest of the class to “PUSH YOURSELVES!!!” when it came to the pacer/beep tests in years 7 and maybe 9 or 10 (i can’t remember now)….. where every time i’d purposely tap out at level 1:1 which was walking….. because i didn’t see any fucking point in going any further… when, on the other hand my teachers kept trying to aggressively push me to a higher level maybe at least 5 or something, all because they thought since i was small and skinny, i was obviously built for school athletics- mostly track.
like if PE classes in schools weren’t so focused on being stupidly overly competitive and “pushing yourself to your physical limits”, even to the point of general fitness tests like the beep/pacer tests… and focused on a more holistic and healthy approach to exercise, maybe i would’ve actually given a fuck about it and grasped that exercise was important much earlier than my early to mid 20s. and it’s also past kids channels on austar/foxtel like nickelodeon doing their “20min break for fitness and staying healthy” that they tried in on mid 2000s to try and motivate kids to get outside and get fit, instead of sitting in front of the tv all afternoon after school; where i’d purposely change the channel to something else while that 20min break was running.
because by my early 20s and mid uni, i was deeply depressed and highly anxious with my uni assessments, and still under the impression that “since i’m small, i don’t have to do any exercise…. and plus walking around campus to my classes and shit is more than enough exercise for the day!” and gave into the “super lazy, unorganised and unfit uni student” schtick to get me out of doing any type of exercise, just so that i could stay in bed all day and avoid all of my problems and responsibilities.
however, eventually it caught up with me and i realised that i HAD to go at the very least, for a walk, because i was so depressed with only leaving my room for uni classes and occasionally handing my assignments in in print; that i had to reframe it as self-care and not “i have to set a goal and meet it otherwise mr watchenhousen, the sports department coordinator from catholic school who i’m pretty sure wanted to expel me in year 10 for refusing to do ALL of my physical AND theory PE lessons and assessments (unless they were group or partner work) from years 7-10 will appear out of nowhere and SCREAM at me for not “participating properly, you lazy child WHAT ABOUT PUSHING YOURSELF AND CARING ABOUT YOUR TEAM!!!!????””
like in a way, it was sad that i didn’t move schools earlier, bc the public school that’s literally down the road from me, that i moved to in 2012 for my final years of high school; had walking for sport. YES. you read that right. just plain old walking for sport. general non-competitive exercise for sport. they also had fishing. and a myriad of other things like yoga (which i also had at catholic school). and catholic school did have good sport rotations that weren’t taught by the PE teachers like zumba, bowling, circus arts, gymnastics, self defence/martial arts and like i said, yoga.
all of these sports, which i liked, i liked mostly because everyone else sucked along with me (circus, zumba and self defence (not counting my friend who was a black belt instructor at her karate school)) or envied me for being able to stretch and flex like the instructors (yoga and gymnastics) or was too embarrassed to participate properly (zumba and circus skills sometimes). and bowling was great, bc it came with buying hot chips and coke at the food bar of the bowling alley and you got to sit down 90% of the time lmao 😂😅. i liked the self defence classes (minus the sexist and ableist instructor) bc i saw the practicality in learning it. and plus, these sports were generally not violently competitive bc we were always chaperoned by non-sports teacher like my english teacher, who, like me, held the view that sport was a waste of fucking time, especially in terms of her marking times of her students (including my year 9 and 10 english class’s) work, when she was instead chaperoning a sport class to hip hop dancing that she barely ever participated in, due to not being in the right clothes.
but outside of school, obvs like op said, the fact that you’re expected to try to fit any of those above activities, which are usually classes that cost hundreds of $$$ per a term (and obvs rightfully so), if you want to be taught in your area and not by youtube… is what has frequently blocked me out of yoga or pilates classes and trapeze/other circus skills classes…. or hell, even trying to find an adult gymnastics class or physie class (which is a combined dance and like gymnastics sport) or even parkour classes if that’s more your thing, is impossible. and the same goes, in general, for people who just want to go to the gym. plus there’s the fact that gym memberships are hard to cancel, considering they want to retain your subscription/membership, despite you not using their services or facilities at all over the year because you have no time or energy left to go on the weekend (because we need to rest fuck damn it) or after work.
okay i went off on a big tangent about sport education in schools, but like. still. exercise is important and it sucks that in schools that it’s throughly overpowered by competitiveness rhetoric and the concept of winning at all costs (like bro it’s fucking high school PE class!!!! not the fucking olympics or the NBA or whatever other professional and elite level sport league) and pushing yourself to your utmost limits…. when they really need to reframe it as a self care activity to keep you healthy in general.
and i think reframing it as a self care activity so that kids, just like i was in high school, who were pretty much scarred by the over-competitiveness of sport; don’t automatically equate their failure of not engaging with at least like 30mins a day of exercise for just basic health reason to being non-athletic… or don’t end up like i was at uni incredibly depressed and anxious (and ultimately with a stomach tumour probably caused by my aversion to exercise and over-eating)…. or moreover, end up seeing themselves as failures bc they’re not pushing themselves to go to the gym everyday or pushing themselves every day to do some stupidly long 5km run bc idk fitness tiktok (idk of its called fit-tok or some dumb asf bs name) told them that that’s the stairway to the perfect health & wellness journey…. when they haven’t even built up the necessary stamina or something to do so. then they unfortunately end up beating themselves up mentally bc they haven’t done just a little bit of exercise bc their work life and life in general doesn’t give them the energy to do so.
finally, also fuck the whole thing about losing weight and burning/counting calories that’s seeped so deeply into exercise as well. bc it’s exactly how so many people end up with body image issues or mental health conditions like anorexia and/or bulimia or orthoreixa (around calorie counting and eating the perceived “right foods”). exercise is fucking self care and simple mental health management, plain and simple.
exercise is important and good for you but the way its discussed is so inextricably wrapped in like weight loss and it being a moral failing to be unathletic or whatever and that really sucks
like im someone who does more strenuous exercise (tho literally just like. walking a half hour every day is perfectly ideal) but i dont care if it affects my weight or not bc regardless i know im doing something healthy for my lifestyle. when i lose weight as a byproduct, fine, its not my goal. if i dont, fine, it doesnt matter to me bc my body is doing what it needs to do. i think thats a pretty healthy frame of mind for it. like it needs to be reframed as what it is- something good for your physical and mental health , not as a means to an end of getting skinny or as a punishment

Day 4. California – Hawaii
Tumblr media
We got up at 4:20am local time, checked the weather right away and were happy to see that winds and weather forecasts were the same as the evening before. Our hotel was right next to the aircraft parking so we literally just walked out the door and over to our planes. As we did our preflight it started raining a little bit and it was a rather wet and chilly experience getting ready. The tower opened at 6:00am so we were in our suits and strapped in and ready to get our departure clearances at 6:00am sharp. Because there is no radar coverage over the ocean the air traffic control requires us to be 15 minutes apart. So after Hansjoerg in 17MF had got his clearance and taxied out I called up ground for my clearance.
Tumblr media
The departure out of Santa Maria was smooth and the clouds as expected. Because of the terrain around the airport we have to fly a published departure to the north. We were then cleared direct to the first waypoint on our airway to Hawaii. The clouds were few to scattered and freezing levels were at 4000 so we could easily climb up above the clouds while avoiding going through them. I leveled off at 6000 initially and it was a beautiful sunrise behind us as we left the west coast of the US mainland. Winds were strong, but exactly as predicted. And as I did my time calculations my first few waypoints seemed to be right on. Soon after leveling off, Los Angeles Center gave me the HF frequencies for San Francisco Center who controls the traffic over to Hawaii. Initially I could not get a reply on any of the frequencies and I reported this back to LA Center. The controller gave me yet another channel and said that if I can’t get contact with San Francisco I would have to return to Santa Maria. I was thinking “man, is this what’s gonna make us turn back? Now as we have good enough weather and finally are on our way?” I tried the HF again and finally I got hold of San Francisco and could report to LA that I had two-way communication on HF. What a relief!
Tumblr media
As we got further away from the coast the cloud tops got higher and the outside temperature was -3C, so I requested higher altitudes to stay clear. In the climb I requested various deviations from track to stay clear but at one point I did pick up some ice. The sun quickly melted it off as I leveled off at FL080. I didn't want to go much higher as the winds were considerably stronger there. 17MF and I were on different HF channels. Initially when he requested higher altitudes he was told to stand by because he would have to climb through my flight level. As we stayed in touch on a company VHF frequency we agreed that I should request a higher level so that he could be cleared higher as well. Soon after I was cleared to climb, San Francisco called me up again: “N618MF, report when reaching FL090 so that we can get your buddy out of the ice.” Air Traffic Control is very helpful and they do whatever they can to make our flights as safe, smooth and efficient as possible. So we both soon got clear of the clouds and eventually the temperatures got above zero also at our levels. We were clearly flying towards warmer regions. With me being at FL090 we could both stay clear of the cloud tops, but the winds were less in my favor. Overall it would slow me down 30 minutes so as soon as 17MF was 15 minutes ahead of me I requested to descend down again to his level at FL080, which I got. The next 6 hours were uneventful and right according to plan. My actual time of arrival over each waypoint was within 5 minutes, most of them within 2-3 minutes. It was incredible to see how accurate the flight-planning software was and how accurate the winds aloft predictions were. We used some more realistic numbers on this flight based on our experience from the first flight from Wichita.
Tumblr media
I kept an accurate and detailed log of my fuel transfer and I also did an engine trend monitoring every hour. You have one engine keeping you above the foaming Pacific Ocean and you want to keep a good eye on that one engine. Another thing I constantly monitored and adjusted was my point of no return. I wanted to be able to return to Santa Maria with 1.5 hours reserve. Eventually I entered this as a waypoint in my flight plan and this is where I would have to either commit or return to Santa Maria. Before this point you get the latest weather forecasts for the remaining route as well as your destination. San Francisco center was very helpful and gave weather updates when I asked for it. Our own flight follower in Cairns, Australia, who was following us via our satellite trackers gave us updated weather information along the route and for the destination. That helped us make an informed decision when reaching our point of no return, and peace of mind along the way.
Tumblr media
8 hours into the flight we went into solid instrument meteorological conditions, IMC. We knew that there was a large system covering a big portion of our route but fortunately there was not too much convective weather. But it rained solidly and continuously and a couple of times I had to circumnavigate some stronger cells. For the next 4 hours we were in clouds and rain, and the temperatures dropped to between 2-4C requiring us to keep the engine inertial separator out at times. (A system to prevent rain and ice from entering into the engine). This reduces the engine power output and thus affected our total flight time. I was glad we had plenty of fuel. We still had many hours to go to Hawaii.
Tumblr media
As we can only use the fuel that is in the wing tanks we try to keep these topped up at all times. As soon as there is room in the tank, we start transferring fuel from the tanks in the cabin. As we fill up the wing tanks we also adjust our fuel range in our avionics, and it is a good feeling to finally be at a point where we are close enough to make it with the fuel we have in the wings, in case we should experience any problems with the cabin fuel tanks. Notice the ground speed and the winds in the picture below. This was about 2,5 hours before arrival. It eventually improved.
Tumblr media
After over 4 hours in clouds we broke out into beautiful sunlight, just as our flight follower in Australia had predicted to us a few hours earlier. It had been rather turbulent at times so it was nice to enjoy a smooth ride again. An hour before landing, San Francisco Center handed me over to Honolulu who cleared me to Hilo, our destination at the biggest and most southern island. The last couple of hours I just enjoyed the stunningly beautiful sunset. Hilo approach gave me radar vectors and cleared me for the ILS RWY 26 which was pretty much a straight in approach from the ocean. I landed 7:15, 55 minutes after sunset. 3,898km,14 hours and 43 minutes and only 9 minutes later than my original estimated time of arrival. What an amazing experience.
Monday 6:00 am we depart for Majuro, Marshall Islands. Another 4000km.

Project 8
Course code and name: MSJ11343 Media Relations Project Name: Crisis Communication Plan (Group) Project Date: Summer 2020 Project Description: Our faculty assigned us a crisis communication plan and it was a group project. We had to work on a crisis communication plan with press release in the process on KFC. We chose this because they went through a crisis long time back. Project Justification: This project made me realized how strong a PR stunt can be and how important a crisis communication plan is for PR. I had to work in a team and I worked on the poster designing and helped press release writing.

Group’s name: British Accent Boy Communications Crisis Communication Plan   Overview
The crisis scenario we’re facing is as follows: KFC had to shut down more than half of its 900 outlets in the UK due to a shortage of chicken. Fans of KFC are understandably very upset about the incident. There has been severe backlash on multiple social media channels. The press has been having a field day with the news that a restaurant chain specializing in fried chicken, has run out of chicken. Mainstream media and social media are capitalizing on the irony of situation. This incident involving the large-scale shutdown occurred after KFC made the switch from their previous delivery company to DHL. According to DHL, the deliveries weren’t made properly due to operational issues on their end. Crisis communication to us is simply defined as the communication process through which we address a crisis scenario. To us, it’s taking the ethical approach in identifying what went wrong, analyzing the reactions from concerned audiences and devising a strategic communication plan to minimize damage and obtain the optimal results. Our crisis communication plan will be centered around accomplishing one task – to change the narrative, which in turn will work towards rebuilding KFC’s brand reputation with the concerned audience as well as developing consumer trust.
Purpose
As mentioned previously, the purpose of our crisis communication plan is to change the narrative. The crisis communication plan has been devised with the clear goal of placating disgruntled consumers and earning back their trust. We’ll be utilizing the media’s current stance towards KFC and the backlash the brand is facing. The goal will be to have KFC laugh alongside the media and the consumers at the no-chicken situation, instead of being laughed at. This will be accomplished through a sincere apology to the concerned stake holders and humorous self-depreciating posts (mostly memes) through strategic media channels. All the while we will be constantly pushing the idea that KFC is standing firm in its promise to ensure quality above all, and will maintain absolute transparency in regards to any development in the coming weeks. In addition, the concerned stakeholders will be assured that such an event will not occur again.
Objectives The objectives of the crisis communication plan are as follows: • Change the narrative. • Restore KFC’s brand image through the stipulation of quality above all and the brand’s dedication to its customers. • Regain primary audience’s trust and their faith in the brand through admittance of fault, and the dissemination of crisis messages specifically crafted for the primary audience. • Maintain transparency with concerned stakeholders in regards to the events that led to the crisis and measures being taken to ensure that such a crisis never occurs again. • Assess the crisis management efforts and devise a contingency plan in case of future crises.
Procedures The crisis communication plan sees the formation of two teams. Both teams will be in constant communication with each other, and will be under the purview of the Crisis Command Center Manager. One team will be dedicated to addressing the crisis through social media channels. This would involve creating and disseminating appropriate crisis messages, addressing inquiries and concerns of the consumers. The team will be conducting short term evaluations every three days and adapt to any changes that may occur. The other team will be dedicated to addressing the crisis through the press. The team will monitor members of the press and identify the channels through which the dissemination of the crisis message will have the greatest effect, as well as monitoring the attitudes of the members of the press towards KFC during this crisis. The team will also be involved in coaching the selected spokesperson on the stance KFC is to take and the specific message the plan calls for to be disseminated. The spokesperson will be taking a more formal approach in addressing the media, but will maintain the same transparency and promise of quality that KFC is known for. Lastly, selected members from both teams, alongside the Crisis Command Center Manager, will be in touch with DHL’s crisis communication team to ensure that both KFC and DHL are taking a non-conflicting stance, if not a similar one.
Response The target audience range from the young to young adults. This demographic is characterized to be laid-back, hip and trendy. The socio-economic status of the target audience ranges from lower-middle to upper-middle class. Given the nature of this audience, the crisis communication plan calls for a more informal and laid-back crisis message to be disseminated. The channels we’ll be employing to reach the target audience are as follows: • Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Reddit. • News Outlets: BBC News, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Independent, Daily Mirror, Daily Express. • Events: Press conference to be held at the Hilton London Olympia in Kensington, London on 21st February, 28. In addition, other speaking opportunities will be explored. As we’ve previously established, the KFC spokesperson will formally address the crisis – remaining fully transparent and they will admit that KFC was at fault here, and that every measure is being taken to rectify the current situation. They’ll go on to reaffirm that KFC values quality above all and every step is being taken to ensure that such an event never occurs again.
Crisis Scenarios: 14 Point Checklist and Takeaways I. Yes, we understand what has happened. A crisis situation developed, when due to operational problems that DHL faced, delivery of raw materials to KFC outlets all over UK were interrupted and/or incomplete. Due to the lack of chicken, over half the KFC outlets in the UK had to be temporarily closed, which left consumers frustrated as they were unable to get their fried chicken fix. Moreover, the press is also taking advantage of the irony of the situation. II. Yes, everyone on the crisis team has been made aware of the crisis situation and have already been assigned to their respective teams. III. Yes, we’ve prepared a holding statement: “Due to problems we’re facing with the delivery of raw materials to the KFC branches we’ve decided to close the branches temporarily. We value quality above all, so we don’t believe it fair to keep a branch open when we’re unable to serve what we’re known for. We’re doing our absolute best to ensure that we’re able to reopen the branches at the earliest possible time. We’ll keep you updated of any developments.” IV. Yes, we are logging media interest. We are keeping track of all the positive and negative press we’re getting on print media, digital news media and social media. In addition, we’re keeping track of all the branches that are generating the most amount of interest, and furthering our recommendations to KFC management, to focus on reopening those branches first. V. Yes, DHL is involved in this crisis. Our crisis management teams are already in touch with their communications personnel, and we’re already working towards formulating a joint statement addressing the cause of the crisis. VI. Yes, we are ensuring a free flow of information. We are constantly in communication with members of the press and consumer base. We are keeping to the plan by being absolutely transparent and honest in addressing our customers. The stakeholders are being kept up to date on any new development. VII. Through the crisis communication plan, we’re showing that KFC cares about delivering quality to its customers. In addition, we’ve recommended for every franchise outlet to pay keep paying the employee wages during this time of closure, and the main branches are already doing so. In admitting KFC is at fault, the brand is showing responsibility towards its stakeholders, and the transparency we’re employing at every stage only further amplifies that. VIII. Yes, for our spokesperson we’ve chosen Jenny Packwood, Head of Brand Engagement at KFC UK and Ireland. IX. Yes, we believe a local spokesperson will greatly aid our cause. We’re currently identifying influential locals who we’ll be looking to recruit. X. The crisis blew up on all social media platforms. This ranges from Facebook statuses complaining about closed outlets to YouTubers filming videos about the situation. However, the most responses we’re seeing are on twitter, divided between frustrated customers and others who are enjoying the irony of the situation. #ChikenGate started trending on twitter as well. The crisis story was hitting full speed on Reddit, with 10,000 upvotes on one of the first post about it. It was even reported that police are asking people to stop calling to report the missing chicken. Yes, we are monitoring it and, in the short term, we are trying to reach out and address concerns that go viral. For the long term, we’re sending recommendations to KFC as to which branches opening up would aid the most with public opinion. XI. There will be a press conference held at the Hilton London Olympia in Kensington, London at 11:30 am on 21st February, 2018. XII. Yes, we are not only having people monitor and reply on social media pages 24/7, we’ve also opened up a 24/7 hotline. XIII. Internal communication is vital during a crisis like this. Three members of the crisis management team have been assigned to make sure there’s a clear flow of communication between every branch of KFC and the headquarters right now. XIV. Most importantly, we’ve learned that KFC requires an airtight contingency plan in case of a crisis. We’ve made recommendations to KFC to utilize multiple delivery options in the future. Stakeholder opinion can make or break a brand and as such the brand needs to be able to hold itself accountable to them, while maintaining honesty and transparency.
2. Statements and Communications
Letter to the Stakeholders:
This letter to the stakeholders will be published on social media platforms and will be placed as ad on select newspapers:
Dear All,
We were so close, how’ve we drifted so far apart? Is chicken the only thing you saw in us?! Don’t answer that. Jokes aside, we understand how frustrated you guys are right now; we’re right there with you. The current state of things is far from ideal. Trust us when we say, we’re doing absolutely everything in our power to make sure things go back to normal ASAP.
Our thanks go out to all the KFC team members, and our partners for working tirelessly to guide us out of this situation. With their efforts we are steadily opening up outlets again, so you’ll soon be able to satisfy that fried chicken craving.
Our sincerest gratitude for staying with us. We’re truly sorry.
Yours truly, The KFC UK Family   Press Release:
KFC: Addressing the Chicken Shortage and Store Closures
21st February, 2018: KFC spokesperson, Jenny Packwood, addressed the chicken shortage and store closures during a press conference that took place today at 11:30 am, at the Hilton London Olympia in Kensington, London.
As of the 17th of February, KFC outlets in the UK ran out of fried chicken, leading to the closure of over 600 outlets. This happened as a result of operational problems faced by DHL, KFC’s new delivery partner. These problems arose when trying to get fresh chicken to over 900 outlets all over the UK. Jenny said, “We believe in delivering quality at KFC, and so opening our outlets without fresh chicken was never really an option for us”. She went on to say that KFC takes responsibility for the situation right now and asks that the customers of KFC bear with the situation a bit longer, “The amazing people working with KFC, and our partners, are working tirelessly to make sure the outlets open as soon as possible. We’d like to thank them for all they’ve done and thank our beloved customers as well for their understanding and patience”.
The conference ended with a Q/A session where Jenny Packwood addressed questions from members of the press. When asked as to the timeline for reopening of the KFC outlets, she answered, “Opening the outlets are the top priority right now, and we’re already well on our way with more and more outlets open every day. We hope to have them all open and serving delicious fried chicken very soon”.

Match Made in Heaven
I had a full-on black mirror length episode dream last night. I want to submit it as an episode because its so wild. We just watched all of Black Mirror last week so.... If you don’t know what it is, its a British show that’s on Netflix now where each season is just a collection of single stand alone story episodes that are twilight zone esque but are based around technology and its ramifications in the future. So here we go
To paint the picture, I have no name. I have a 20-something tall lanky boy. I have a mess of dark hair that falls into my face annoyingly and dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep. The lack of sleep is a combination of being caused by my rowdy group of friends that I have no idea why they keep me around and my own anxiety (see sentence one). I am painfully shy but I think they find my jokes hilarious which is why they force me out of my room all the time to go out with them. Whenever I need to be calmed down I throw myself into YouTube cooking channels. Something about someone talking to a blurry camera they have set up while cooking or the top down tasty view really relaxes me.
I am about to start back my last year of college. This could be match year for me and I am extremely nervous about it.  In my world everything is run by The System™. It’s an advanced computer software that takes the guessing out of living life. It is constantly monitoring your progress through life and how you interact with other people and even with yourself when you are alone. It takes all this analysis and then uses it to make a schedule for it. Everyone follows the schedule without question because it genuinely makes them happy. You don’t know what you want to be when you grow up? The system is constantly analyzing what you are best at and what you enjoy so it can accurately select a job for you that you would be best at. It took into account that while I love cooking and wanted to be a chef when I was younger, as I got older and more full of anxiety the thought of having to be stuck in a kitchen for 10 hours a day maybe more to cook for people with their whole meal plan happiness riding on me caused me multiple sleepless nights. It took this and my interest in cooking videos into account and found that when I graduate from college I will start my own cooking show as a director/producer. I will be given a star as a puppet to cook my recipes stress free. You might think, but doesn’t this not sound appealing to you, you aren’t the real star? The truth is I don’t want to be. I hear about people who enjoy cooking and eating my food. I don’t even want to be the one who makes it. I just want to be the person that gives them the option of that enjoyment. I am getting off track though,  The System™...  The System™ will select my job, it selected my class schedule every school year since I was born. It selects my dinner plans when I want to go out, it schedules and gets me tickets for events I want to go to.  The System™ is flawless. The best part about it is there is choice. If you are tired of going going going  The System™ doesn’t schedule anything and goes idle allowing you free time to do anything. My friends come around drunk at 2 am asking me to go play tennis in the courts even though they are off limits? We can go do that. We might get in trouble by the campus police if they catch us, but that’s the thrill of it. I want to stay up until 4 am even though I have an 8 am class the next day watching drunken kitchen? I get that enjoyment and the misery the next day. I even get the choice to whether I can muster through class or sleep blissfully for another few hours.  The System™ allows choice, it even allows consequence. It just makes the hardest choices for you and you are free to widle away your free time however you want. It uses this time to gather data anyway to make future choices so where is the harm in that.
Match year: In your final semester of college  The System™ is advertised to know enough about your life that it can start matching you with your loved one. As  The System™ is so flexible you get a year of interaction with said significant other before it determines if you should marry.  The System™ allows for multiple romances, my grandmother, rest her soul, was married twice in her life. She was with her first husband for 25 years from Age 22-47. In the later years his and her interests changed and no longer aligned for their retirement at 65.  The System™ announced they were already divorced and already had new places to live. My grandmother was remarried 5 years later to the man she was with until she died at 85. She was blissfully happy even when she passed. You begin to have your matching option in your last year of college (if the typical four year college route was chosen for you). Not everyone gets matched this year but the option is now available if you are ready and I feel like I am ready.  I’ve dreamed and have counted down the days to my final year of college so I can have a chance at romance. With all this desire how could  The System™ not find me a match?
It’s 11:56pm. The systems updated events come out at midnight on Saturday. Mostly people check their events when they awake in the morning but the thought of waiting to see this semesters schedule is driving me up a wall. When the clock rolls over I will know if I was matched. It along with my housing situation and my class schedule for this semester will be revealed. I am in agony for 4 long minutes. A small set of party balloons float down my phones screen and pop with the words update available. The cute surprise does not faze me and I smash my thumb into the words to get the update. The screen loads instantly but even that seems like an eternity. When the words appear it takes me a moment to process them fully. ‘Congratulations you have been matched!’ lists across the top of my screen. I am already laying down in the dark of my room but I feel like I could fall back further and let the phone fall down onto my chest. The phone is clear so this does little to stop the light it produces but the sentiment is clear. I open my eyes not realizing I have squeezes them shut and scream yes at the top of my lungs. I neighbors dog barks out scared. I laugh to myself and throw my arm over my face before realizing I should read the rest of my message to get the rest of my schedule.
Fast forward to move-in day. I will be living in a shared quarters with another match couple. We share a living room kitchen area with their room and a small bathroom on one side and our room and a small bathroom on the other. I arrive before my match and wait to unpack. I’d rather us do it together. She arrives like a ray of sunshine. She looks like  Allison Williams and she is a delight, her name is Marnie (just like in Girls) and she is a tour de force. She is strong, outspoken, and determined. I can tell I am constantly surprising her but she refuses to completely let on. For example she arrives with her parents to help her unpack. She greets me with a wide smile and asks if I have been here long. I tell her only a few hours and she glances behind me at my stacked boxes. She cocks her head and says ‘ you haven’t unpacked in that time?’ I tell her I was waiting for her and she has this microsecond where she visibly glancing inward with a small smile. The microsecond passes and she is back on like a bright light, wisking me up in her enthusiasm as she takes the lead on how we should unpack everything. She takes such charge and is so successful in doing so that even her parents fall into her direction. We quickly unpack everything that day. Not to be presumptuous we shower separately but join each other in the same bed that night. We lay facing each other but I can tell she has an air of caution. I tell her not to worry, let’s let things progress naturally. She evaluates my statement and finds it to be truthful and visibly relaxes. She tells me that she is secretly glad I am the way I am. She confesses that she thought she might be paired with some macho guy to ‘knock her down a peg’. She said she was afraid because she likes to lead and not be weighted down by anything. She said she feels free with me like I am an extension of her. I tell her it feels like I have been waiting for her. She laughs and says I better be ready, she hates cooking. I tell her the career path I’m on and she falls back into her pillow laughing. She praises   he System™ and for the first night in awhile I am able to sleep soundly.
The next week passes comfortably. We get to know each other in a slow pace and we enjoy each others company. We never rush or show much affection in the beginning and I find that to be a relief. It really feels like there is no pressure. I go to my classes and make new friends. West is in my computer editing class and he is a riot. For some reason he is like Dewie from Malcom in the middle and I often find him outside of class sitting at the dinner table. Our hall director is Hal from Malcom in the Middle, he is good natured if not sometimes bumbling. I meet with West everyday for lunch and we fall into a steady rhythm.  He shows me this insane code he has been working on. Its a type of virus that lets you hack other peoples System’s and gather some of their prerecorded data. I tell him that sounds dangerous. He laughs me off saying he’s been using it to make memes of his other three roommates. They are all similar natured to him and they find it to be a hoot. I tell him I am glad The System™ paired him with like minded individuals and that I would be wary myself. He laughs me off and says that is why we don’t live together but I might not be so lucky if I lose to him at another game night. I chuckle but I have a nagging nervousness that he is telling the truth as a veiled joke.
My hall is the single floor of a four story building. We are at the top. Each room houses 4 people and there are many ‘dorms’ on my hall.  Each day passes comfortably until about 3 months have passed. Everyday I am grateful to the match with Marnie. Everything is so perfect I can’t believe I ever lived my life any other way. We are required to make progress reports weekly after the first month. It’s  The System™ ‘s way of tracking how its match went. I sit down on the night that Marnie has a study group to record this week’s entry. I am overwhelmed by my happiness. I set my System in its port on my desk and it projects as a large monitor. I select face-cam in my weekly reports menu and record the following;
“I am unthinkably happy. I never thought I could feel this kind of happiness’ I look away for a moment and cover my mouth. A single tear runs down my check and I am quiet. I turn back to the screen and whip it away saying “its all thanks to  The System™ “
What I don’t notice is the screen flickering during my recording. The playback starts and the video is played back to me:
“I am un-” the video skips. “happy. I never thought I could feel this kind of-” another skip “-sness”  I look away for a moment and cover my mouth. A single tear runs down my check and I am quiet.
The video ends there and the only option is submit. I stare in horror, my body wound tight. The end of happiness sounds like a weak sadness. The whole video has taken on a new tone. While you can clearly see the video appears badly edited I am not sure if  The System™ can tell. I nervous put my hand down on the table as if I were holding a mouse.  The System™ responds as if I am and I move the cursor wildly around the screen. I know that  The System™ does not allow you to change your reports to keep 100% honesty. You have to be prepared to record. I move my hand off the table and look defeated. The system starts to count down to submit, most people record and then walk away letting The System™ submit for them. I scream in frustration and push my way out of my chair knocking it over. It falls to the floor and I turn away. I heat the soft submission noise and turn back to bang my hands on the table. I calm myself and think there is no way that  The System™ can’t tell its messed up right? I feel a bit better with a small egg of nervousness in my gullet.
The next day my fears are confirmed. When I return from my classes Marnie is sitting on the bed looking shell shocked. I stare at her openly and she looks up saying our match has been terminated. She wanders around the room pacing trying to work out why it’s happened. I am completely frozen. I want to tell her what happened but I can’t move. How could this happen?  The System™ is so perfect. The next few days are a bit of a blur. Marnie becomes distant. She believes in the system too much and thinks it must be true. Its like she shifts her brain into this new setting and boom is fine with the decision. She treats me like nothing more than a roommate at this point and I cannot shake the numb that has overtaken me. At the end of one week it is announced that she will be moved to a new room and I will get a new roommate. Finally my numbness breaks and I am furious. I storm from class to class seething. The teachers must take notice because i am summoned to the dean’s office. He is a man of about 55. He clearly cares a lot about appearances and is fit, drinking a green concoction from a personal ninja that he keeps on a desk side bar table. No glass scotch container in sight.  His hair is expertly coiffed to the point where it might be a wig but I cannot tell for sure. His eyes are a piercing blue and he has a leathery tanned skin that is excellently moisturized giving him an almost shiny plastic appearance. He makes big sweeping gestures and tries to make a big speech about how  The System™ knows best and while this may be painful now it will pass as only  The System™ can know the true results. I listen carefully to him almost zoning out but not quite. I enter a zen like zone where I am catching all his micro movements but hearing none of his words. I notice that every 20 or so words he side glances for a millisecond at his projected System. I take in for the first time that his screen is not transparent glass like the rest of us. Instead it is solid like models from the early 2000s. I try to make sure I am looking straight at his face but instead look behind him at the glass. I can see a faint reflection of his screen in the window. It’s daytime so its very hard to make out but its an internet window I have never seen before. I cannot determine the site but I am sure I have never seen it. There are only a handful of websites so I am surprised that he is on one I have never seen. I ponder if educators getting access to specific portals when he stands abruptly. I gather quickly that his speech is over and shake his hand. I don’t thank him and simply nod when he asks if I understand everything now. That satisfies him and he pats himself on the back for a job well done and asks his receptionist to usher me out of his office.
That night I go to the clubhouse. My rowdy group of friends have taken tenancy in an abandoned building toward the northern side of campus. A decrepit old political science building of three stories. It was condemned at some point in the past. Some past class then petitioned for it to not be torn down and somehow won the building a historical site award. The university instead of putting forth money to preserve the building and turn it into some sort of museum instead chose to rope the eyesore off. One of my past seniors had taken a few of his engineering buddies and acquired a blue print of the property. Much to many past students dismay the second floor seemingly had no bathrooms and they had to either go up or down a flight of stairs if the necessary feelings came on. According to the blue print however these rooms were constructed but then walled off for some reason. My senior then snuck out with his friends every night for many months until they were able to construct a secret bookcase entrance to said room. They were then renovated into a spacious college hangout for only those christened important. The bookcase door had a very secret code that was changed every semester to keep old alumni from coming back to relive their glory days. My current group of friends had passed this knowledge on to me. I shifted the books on the shelf to reveal a keypad which I then punched a specific code into. The door swung open and I slipped inside. A few of my friends were there and they greeted me by throwing a soda can directly at my head. I was use to this motion and caught it awkwardly. I immediately slumped into a chair and explained the entire situation. My friends were very attentive. I had never asked much of them and they were happy to oblige. After my tale had rung they chipped in their opinions but one of my friends was pensive. I specifically chimed out his name and my other friends went silent. He said he heard once that there was more outside of the system. We asked what he meant. He said he could not be sure and that this might not make sense but he feels like he might have once known more. Something about how there are choices now, but they are nothing compared to what once was. I mentioned the teachers portal and one of my friends said that his System has him set to be an educator but not once have they ever mentioned their own website. Their conversations and theories carried on but I started to hatch a plan.
Friday came quickly, Marnie’s move-out date. I watched sadly as she packed all her things and prepared to leave. She was excited because the filing did not say who her new roommate was. It dawned on me for the first time that she could have been matched with someone else and i grew sick from jealousy. I offered to help her move but she dismissed me. Stress consumed me, after she moved out with the help of one of her friends I paced around my half empty room. I had to find an excuse to find out who her new roommate would be. I finally decided I could make up an excuse on the fly and ran down the hall peeking in every open door to determine which was hers. I kicked myself for not asking her in the first place where she was moving but I decided to calm myself by convincing myself that she would not have told me anyway. After two hall turns I found her door, it was slightly ajar as they moved boxes in. I was relieved to see her new roommate was one of my computer editing classes mates and a female. I drew solace from this and suddenly was overcome with a feeling of stupidity. I realized I was being obsessive and turned to snap myself out of it. I marched back to my room to finish preparing.
Several days later it was time for my plan to go into action. I had placed an anonymous tip to the campus police about our clubhouse. I made no mention of my group but instead hinted heavily that it was a single rogue student jaded with  The System™ trying to hack it and dismantle it. The dean as I thought took this threat very seriously and he himself hemmed the project of trying to open the clubhouse door. I avoided my friends at all cost so as not to hear their laments. It was a necessary cost if what I believed to be occurring was.  I let night fall and nervously tried to busy myself with YouTube videos. No amount of cooking videos could quell my anxiety at this point. When 7:45pm rolled around, I dressed in all black and set out for the clubhouse. As expected the day workers had left and all that was left was the dean. I sneaked expertly around the building I had wandered around dozens of times. He stood puzzled. They had ascertained where the clubhouse door sat and had set up flood lights pointing directly at the bookshelf. They must have been trying all day to guess the code to open the door. I had assumed correctly that they could do not damage to the building with its historical status. I moved pass this room to the adjacent corner classroom in which the dean had set up a pseudo command center. Again my guess had been correct that they would need a command central. I assumed the office would normally be locked but the dean’s dedication to protecting The System™ kept him later than most. I searched the room for a place to hide. This is the one part of the plan that I could not guess accurately. I had hoped there would be a desk to hide behind but there was no such luck. I grew stressed and heard the dean yawn from the other room. I knew I had to run and spun around to leave. Out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of a sheet. I walked over to what must have once been a teachers supply closet and opened it. I pile of white sheets cascaded out. I instantly knew this must have been the sheets that protected the tables now being used in this command center. I jumped into them in a last ditch effort figuring this would be my only chance to find anything out. This move proved fruitful as the dean entered the room not even a moment later. He seemed non perturbed by the pile of sheets now residing in front of the open cabinet. I peeked between the folds of the sheet watching him head over to a blueprint of the building.
At this point he sighed and plopped down at an old teachers desk positioned at the front of the room. A stack of four books sat to the right side of the desk. I thought of the catalog of books available to all. There were only a 100 books on the list but I could instantly tell that these four were not. Only one new book was introduced a year, the selection process was marked as being rigorous. I wondered if the Dean was somehow on the selection committee. The dean moved to select the top copy and place it in front of him. He reached into the top drawer of the desk and pulled out a white out stick. He then proceeded to open and read over the book while simultaneously marking out lines on almost every single page. I narrowed my eyes. This was definitely not a selection process. He was censoring the literature. I tried to think of a million reasons why this could be when someone knocked on the door.
A redheaded woman stepped in and I recognized her to be a district superintendent. I grew nervous as she looked over the room with a wary eye. She told the dean that he needed to wrap this up, he must know how sensitive any information about  The System™ getting out would be. He nervously walked up to her and tried to cover up his nerves with flourishing gestures. The intended affect was different than he had hoped as the superintendent stepped back in disgust clearly not wanting to be touched by him. I wondered the ramifications of such a gesture but decided that was another story. She straightened herself and glanced straight at my sheet pile. She sneered. The jig is up I thought and squeezed my eyes shut for reveal. Nothing came however and she just spit out a dagger of ‘and clean this place up’ before leaving. The dean deflated and followed to see her out. Now was my chance. I grabbed my backpack and unzipped it to reveal its only contents. A small racket ball racket and a tennis ball. I looked out just on the other side of the parking lot surrounding this building and eyed the tennis courts. The glowed brightly flooded with artificial light and buzzing with students taking a night beginners class. I grinned and lifted the ancient window until it was jolted open. I then used my small racket to smack a tennis ball directly into the wind shield of the dean’s car. The alarm instantly started blaring and I pushed the window shut as quickly as I could. I ducked down in the process so no one would catch me in the window. I peaked just enough however to see the Dean run from his place beside the superintendent outside to his car and start screaming a stream of profanities. I continued to grin and felt I could do so until the end of time and moved over to the table of blue prints. On the desk sat a copy of the desktop port for his System. Into it I snapped into place the greatest part of my plan. A copy of the virus that West has created to hack into someones System. A copy of his screen ported in and the virus went to work decrypting. It only took a few minutes and I was in. What was revealed I was unprepared for. There were not just a handful of websites as I had always been lead to believe. Instead there were thousands if not millions. Just a short search revealed endless possibilities. All the choices we thought we had were instead a watered down set of predetermined choices just like the books that the dean was editing. I sat back knowing that I must leak all this information. I might never get to be with Marnie again but I knew that in the long run this would hopefully benefit her and the world more.

"Here you go." The kind nurse sitting at the front desk of the hospital says cheerfully, handing me a paper bag containing my prescription. "Take one of these when you plan on using your ability. It'll give you a boost. Don't take more than three in a day, as that could result in further muscle damage."
"Thank you so much!" I accept the bag from her and give her a smile before leaving with Toshiro-sensei at my side. Opening up the bag, I pull out a rectangular bottle with small, pea-sized pills the color of mud.
I pull a face. "These look disgusting."
Toshiro-sensei laughs at my comment. "Don't worry. They're only chakra pills, they're tasteless."
"Chakra pills, huh?" I hum, smiling and studying the contents of the container. "I like the sound of that."
"Hey." Toshiro-sensei stops me in my tracks and urges me to meet his gentle eyes. "I want you to promise me that you'll follow the instructions of that nurse. No matter how tired you are, how exhausted you feel, never take more than three in a day, understand? I don't want to see you in the hospital again."
My heart softens at my teacher's words. It's obvious he genuinely cares about me. Is this what it feels like to have a family?
I nod. "Yes, sensei. I promise."
He smiles at my obedience, and I feel myself smiling back. We walk to the training grounds together where we meet Kono and Mira, who stand, holding a bag of thick, red liquid. As we approach, Mira sees us first, waving in greeting and gesturing to the bag they have in their hands. "One bag of raw, unfiltered blood, fresh from the butcher!"
The bag jiggles in their grip, threatening to spill at any moment. Excitement floods my veins. Finally, I'll be getting somewhere.
"Shall we start right away, or do you guys want to do some warm ups first?" Toshiro-sensei offers us a choice, though probably already knowing which one we would end up picking.
"Let's just get on with Sumi-chan's ability. It's been so long!" Kono says excitedly, Mira and I nodding in agreement.
Toshiro-sensei nods. "Alright. Sumi, you can go ahead and take a pill."
I do as he says and stand still, waiting for it to take effect. Then, almost immediately, a surge of energy takes over my body. My senses snap to attention, my breaths are deeper, and my chakra channels thrum with energy; I feel alive.
"Okay, let's take this slowly." Toshiro-sensei reaches out to take the bag of blood from their hands and opens it a bit, pouring out a handful of the liquid.
I feel it. I don't know how to explain it, but I feel the substance as it pours out of the bag, even as it splatters onto the ground. I reach out to it with a hand, my actions coming to me naturally, as if I was meant to be doing this all my life.
"Sumi-chan!" Mira gasps in surprise, watching me with wide eyes. "Your eyes have turned red."
Taking hold of the blood on the ground, I force it up into the air and manipulate it to take shape. Long senbon needles colored a dark crimson glisten in the light of the sun and float precariously in front of me.
"Good." Toshiro-sensei coaches. "Now throw them at those targets over there."
I do, and the blood needles fly through the air dangerously, whipping towards the targets that stand ten feet away. However, instead of piercing the wood like I'd hoped they would, the senbon lose form as they hit the target, and blood splatters all over the bright red circle that marks the center.
"Not bad! Your aim is perfect." Toshiro-sensei exclaims. Kono and Mira are beaming at my ability, smiling at me encouragingly. "Now, try it again, but try to keep it in form as you hit the target."
The rest of the day goes on like that, with me practicing my ability and Kono and Mira sparring together. Toshiro-sensei goes around monitoring us, giving feedback on our techniques and instructions on how to improve. By the time the sun starts setting, I've already burned through my limit of three chakra pills and joined the others in a circle they've formed on the grass. Breathing heavily, I slouch in the cross-legged position I take in between Mira and Kono, propping my chin up with my hand.
I feel myself dozing off from exhaustion, and just as I close my eyes, something gently tackles me from behind. Lurching forward, my eyes snap open in surprise and I do my best to balance myself as a weight comes to rest on my back. A couple of barks capture my attention.
"Akamaru!" I exclaim, letting the white and brown puppy fall into my arms. I hug him affectionately and tickle his belly. He barks up at me happily. "What are you doing here? Where's your master?"
"Right here." A boyish voice answers.
I turn around and smile. "Hi Kiba."
Inuzuka Kiba. He and I go way back. When I first entered the academy, he sat beside me and quickly proved to be quite a disruptive student (though not as disruptive as Naruto was). Of course, I didn't know him back then, but that didn't stop me from giving him the answer to a question he wasn't paying attention to. Ever since then, we were practically inseparable— at least, until we graduated— and I ended up developing a crush on him. He's rather loud and extremely boyish, always making me laugh and patiently encouraging me to come out of my shell. Younger me had always thought that he perfectly balanced out my quiet, demure personality. Even now, as genin, I still find him very attractive, and not just because he's my best friend.
"Hey, Sumi." He greets. I stand with Akamaru still in my arms and hand him back to his master. "I haven't seen you in a while, what have you been up to?"
I shrug. "Just training. Want to see what I did today?"
When he agrees, I excitedly pull him over to the targets, where blood from my earlier attempts still lingered. "I can't do much because I've reached my limit for today, but look."
Reaching out carefully so as to not overdo it, I manipulate the blood into taking form again and floating it around in the air.
"Wow, Sumi-chan, that's amazing!" Kiba's eyes nearly pop out of their sockets as he marvels at my Kekkei Genkai. "And your eyes are red. Have you always been able to do this?"
I nod, feeling my cheeks grow slightly warmer. "I have. But the last time I used it, I ended up in the hospital, so I've avoided it ever since. I got some chakra pills from the hospital this morning though, so I'm able to train with it now. I figure it'll be useful in the exams."
Kiba smirks. "You're participating in the Chunin exams, huh? Guess we'll be up against each other sooner than I thought."
I meet his eyes. "You too?"
He nods, and Akamaru barks affirmatively. "It'll be a challenge, but it'll be fun, too. I'm looking forward to it. Maybe we'll even get to fight each other."
Before I can respond, I lose my grip on the blood I was playing with and slump against the target.
"Woah, hey, Sumi-chan!" Kiba is immediately at my side, grabbing my arms and supporting me as I struggle to hold myself up. "Are you feeling alright?"
"I'm fine." I grunt, feeling lightheaded and out of breath. "I just need to rest. Maybe eat something to recharge my energy."
Kiba adjusts my stance, slinging my left arm around his shoulders and holding me to his side so I can lean on him for support. The close proximity and unexpected contact make me blush like mad, so I angle my head downward, hoping that he won't see my pink cheeks. Walking back to where the others are, I look up a bit to see Kono and Mira catching up with Hinata and Shino. We join them in conversation, exchanging stories and laughing together.
"Psst, you guys." Kono whispers, smirking. "Look at Toshiro-sensei."
Everyone turns their attention to where Kurenai-sensei and Toshiro-sensei are talking. Despite the distance between us, I can tell by his body language that Toshiro-sensei's a bit more nervous than he usually is, constantly fidgeting with his hands and rubbing at the back of his neck. I wouldn't be surprised if his ears were turning red.
"Looks like someone's got a crush." Kono remarks, snickering with Kiba. Hinata giggles softly and even Shino chuckles lowly.
"Yeah." Mira says, smirking as she meets my eyes. She takes notice of my hot cheeks and repeats Kono's words. "Looks like someone's got a crush."
-
"Hey, Mira-chan." Kono calls. "For once, I would like to have a meal with you and not eat yakiniku."
Mira furrows her eyebrows, quickly growing annoyed as he continues to attack her food preferences. "Why are you complaining? Barbecue's delicious, and it's super healthy too! You get meat, veggies, and rice in one meal- try telling me that's not beneficial for your body."
"You get the same nutrients with ramen too!" Kono argues. "Not to mention, the hot, calming broth that ramen comes with."
"You want hot and calming? Stop complaining and drink some tea, you idiot!"
I turn to Kiba and deadpan as my teammates carry on with their pointless bickering. Kiba chuckles, only helping himself to the cooked meat on the grill. Hinata and Shino do the same, watching amusedly Kono and Mira debate animatedly. As I'm about to put some meat in my mouth, my attention is called.
"Sumi-chan! Choose." Kono says rather dramatically. "Ramen or barbecue?"
Mira turns to face me, her eyes begging me to side with her and quickly put an end to this debate. Kono's eyes burn into mine with unwavering determination, utterly convinced that his argument is all kinds of right. I sigh, setting down my chopsticks.
"Sorry to burst your bubble, Kono-kun, but I'm going to have to side with Mira on this one." I chuckle as Kono's face falls. "You get more meat with barbecue than you ever get in a bowl of ramen."
"Aha!" Mira exclaims, standing from her seat triumphantly, pointing a finger at Kono, who sulks visibly. "I told you so!"
"It's okay, Kono-kun." Hinata says softly, drawing Kono's attention to her. "I prefer ramen too." She gives him a shy smile, which Kono returns boyishly.
"Oi." A lazy voice drawls from the booth behind me. "Would you guys keep it down?"
The six of us turn to face the neighboring booth, meeting the eyes of Squad 10. While Ino and Asuma give the six of us a polite wave in greeting, Shikamaru slouches in his seat as if he would rather be anywhere else, and Choji is too busy inhaling the meat on the grill to notice our presence.
"It's been a while, hasn't it, Shikamaru?" Kiba smirks. "Good to see you haven't changed a bit. Just as lazy as always, huh?"
Instead of replying, Shikamaru rests his chin on his palm to hold his head up, and closes his eyes as if he couldn't be bothered to acknowledge our existence.
Kiba's smirk only grows. "Well, I can't have any of that lazy energy rubbing off on me. Especially since I'm planning to perform my absolute best in these exams."
"Hm?" Ino turns in her seat to face us completely. "Exams?"
"Yeah, the Chunin exams." Kono answers, turning a bit pink when Ino meets his eyes. I resist the urge to roll my eyes. Of course, he would react like that to the prettiest girl in our year. How predictable of him. "Are you guys participating, Ino-chan?"
"Way to spoil the good news." Asuma sighs. "Never mind that I brought my team out here to treat them to barbecue with the intention of revealing that to them."
"Huh?" Ino raises an eyebrow. "But that means-"
"Yes, Ino." Asuma pulls out three application forms from his pouch. "I recommended you guys for the Chunin exams."
This gets Choji's attention. "Exams? Didn't we just graduate?"
Ino deadpans. "If you were paying attention, you would know what we were talking about."
"These are the Chunin exams, Choji." She continues. "Exams we take to be promoted to a higher level."
"They're supposedly really challenging." Mira pipes up. "But I suppose they're manageable if you strategize well and train hard enough."
"Ugh." Shikamaru drawls, lazily opening one eye. "Sounds like a drag."
"Nevertheless, you shouldn't let your guard down." Asuma advices. "These exams are not to be taken lightly, and we, Jonins, will not be there to help you. I suggest you all take this seriously.
"People have died in the past exams. Don't underestimate them." He finishes somberly.
The nine of us genin fall quiet. Choji's chopsticks fall out of his grip, and even Akamaru whimpers, noticing the sudden change in the atmosphere. Asuma's words have no doubt made us all rethink our choices to participate.
He seems to notice this, because he's quick to attempt cleaning his mess up. "But don't worry! The fact that your squad leaders recommended you means that they think you're ready for the promotion. All you have to do is train hard and do your best."
It's hard to go back to eating when a bomb like that is dropped, but we all do our best to finish the food anyways.
-
I collapse to the ground, completely out of breath and low on chakra.
After a week of continuous training, I can now use my Kekkei Genkai in battle. In order to increase effectivity in using my ability, I've been practicing my blood bukijutsu and working on perfecting my technique. What started out as my blood senbon splattering against the target ended in my weapons piercing deeply into the wood, and me being able to form shields with it.
"Good job." Toshiro-sensei says, looking down at me as I huffed and puffed on the ground next to my teammates. "You guys are more than ready for tomorrow."
Toshiro-sensei's words do nothing but encourage us, and as we walk back to our homes, Kono goes on and on about how excited he is and how well he's going to do. I, on the other hand, think back to the commotion we walked into last week. Remembering the chill in the air and the fear that I felt in my body, I feel nothing but nervousness for the exams. I don't know what Sabaku no Gaara is capable of, but I'm not willing to bet my chances against him.
"Sensei..." I say.
"Hm?" Toshiro-sensei responds, looking at me. "What's wrong? You look like you're going to be sick."
He's right. The thought of that blood-infused sand is almost enough to have me hurling my guts out into the nearest bush.
"There's something I've been meaning to ask you." My voice is quiet and weak, and I can almost feel myself losing it with how scared I am. "There's this guy..."
"Aww, does Sumi-chan have a crush?" Kono teases. At Kono's words, Mira catches my eyes with a knowing smirk. I shake my head.
"It's about that sand genin." I mutter. "Gaara."
Kono and Mira's faces fall instantly. The mood darkens noticeably, and all the confidence that we built up while training over the past week disappears.
"Hey, hey, what's this, guys?" Toshiro-sensei notices the dark cloud that seems to loom over our heads. "You're supposed to be hyped for tomorrow!"
"Sensei, there's this genin from the sand village." Mira mumbles. Her voice is so soft that we have to lean in closer to understand what she's saying. "His teammates were picking on Naruto and Konohamaru, and when he ordered them to stop and threatened to kill him if they didn't stand down, it felt as though he really would."
"He's got this big gourd full of sand strapped to his back, and Sumi-chan said she could sense blood in it. Most probably the blood of his enemies." Kono shivers. "Not to mention his teammates. They looked pretty skilled too."
"He'd kill us in a heartbeat, without hesitation and without feeling remorse." I say. "I'm almost tempted to back out of these exams knowing that he's participating in them as well."
Toshiro-sensei nods understandingly. "Well, I can't stop you guys from backing out. If that's what you want, then go ahead. It has always been your choice, and it will always be.
"But you've come so far from where you started." He continues. The three of us look up at our sensei to see him smiling down at us fondly. "I'm 100% sure that you guys will ace these exams. I trust in your experience in battle strategy, hard work in training, and perseverance in everything you do. You've all improved greatly, and as your sensei, I could not be prouder of the three of you."
Toshiro-sensei's speech makes my chest go warm and fills me with the kind of confidence one can only get from hearing those words from a teacher. After all, he knows my skills and abilities better than anyone else; this is an elite compliment.
"Alright, sensei!" Kono cheers, completely forgetting about Gaara— for now. "I'm all pumped up for tomorrow! By the time these exams are over, I'll be a chunin, you can bet on that!"
Mira smiles brightly, nodding in agreement. "Me too, sensei. I'll do nothing but my best."
Satisfied at the renewed positive energy of the other two, Toshiro-sensei looks at me. I stare right back at him, giving a determined nod. "Thank you, sensei. I won't let you down."
Smiling, he pats me on the head affectionately and smiles brightly, making my eyes go wide. "You never will."

G.RIMM ECLIPS.E HEADCANONS / META + GENERAL COMBAT CANONS.
i just unlocked all of the steam achievements so i thought i might as well finish this. i’ve been gathering notes since i started playing, so this post has been a long time coming. a lot of it’s rambly because some of it’s not edited and it was all written at different times.
previous detailed combat analysis.
let me get this out of the way immediately, REN. NARUTO. RUNS. just. naruto running all day motherfucker. when was GE released? THE EYESCREEN IN SEASON 1, THE NINJA COMMENT IN SEASON 3, AND THEN THIS. they’ve been dropping hints about the naruto shoes all this time, and we were just too dense to realise it. i feel like a failure. also, ren’s dash! it’s dabbing. it’s dabbing and you cannot tell me otherwise.
i wrote about this before, but i didn’t realise until i started playing that ren’s left handed? i don’t know why it’s important but i’m weird. he’s ambidextrous with dominant left handed; he starts his base combo off with his left hand, his aura punch combo with his left hand, and all his spin attacks spin clockwise. during the breach in volume two his attack combo started off with his left hand. it was a random assumption but it turned out to be true.
in grimm eclipse ren is the only character whose special attacks cost aura, this might explain why he was so tired during the initiation, because using his aura in its raw form might be more taxing than it is to channel it as some kind of semblance ability. the only other character we’ve seen it used in its raw form is fox (and even then, since so little is known about fox, that might have actually been his semblance seen instead of aura itself.)
ren probably resorted to using his aura in volume one because he’s not physically strong, and he doesn’t have an offensive semblance. the fact that his semblance (concealing negative emotions, therefor rendering him invisible to grimm) is invisibility based explains why his fighting style naturally became… ninja-y. he focuses on the weaknesses of his enemies (using stormflower’s blade on the geist in volume four) and taking them down by using their own strengths against them (using the design of nolan porifirio’s weapon to temporarily hinder him, using the taijitu’s fangs to impale it’s own head in volume one, in ge one of his combo attacks is backflipping off an enemy to gain momentum before using his guns to shoot it down), he uses every advantage in order to get ahead.
the reason that ren didn’t show any signs of fatigue in volume four as opposed to those times during volume one is because he didn’t use raw aura in combat. so i think it might be safe to assume that his limited stamina is mostly due to his level of aura consumption, in which he is constantly using it to make his own attacks stronger. he can not rely on his semblance for additional combat damage besides managing to sneak up on his enemies, so he’s been focusing on other aspects of his fighting abilities. both his aura and his semblance are useless in a monitored match, using his aura against another dangerous human opponent such as tyrian is also dangerous because it functions as health at the same time (and also it became quite clear that tyrian had no trouble completely demolishing aura barriers).
it occurred to me that because of the level of consumption, this kind of fighting style might not be encouraged in regular schooling, which is why not a lot of other students tend to fight this way (or any we’ve seen). then again, it is implied that ren and nora had to survive on their own for a fair amount of time, he would have had to utilise every ability that he had. his reliance on aura might have been a standard to him until he arrived in beacon, noticed that no one else fights this way, and has since been trying to hinder his use of it. that kind of thinking could explain why the fight in emerald forest is the only time we saw him use raw aura.
this would also be another reason why ren did not use his aura during jnpr’s fight against brnz, because it’s an extremely dangerous technique. friendly reminder that aura is basically your life force in remnant. it functions as your shield, and in ge, it functions as your health bar. you run out of aura, and take additional damage, you die. the stronger ren’s attack, the more aura it takes. ren can one-hit one-kill and significantly damage enemies within a huge vicinity with his strongest aura drain attack in ge (plus it renders him temporarily invincible), but it takes up over half of his aura/ life bar. using it twice automatically means you’re in the danger zone until your aura is restored.
none of his hand to hand combat is particularly strong without the use of stormflower’s blades, but his kicks have definitely dealt damage, so the fact that he’s the only one that can jump and maneuver through the trees so easily during volume four makes sense. nora needs additional platforms and climbs, while ruby uses her rifle to move. they’re stronger than his arms. you might notice that ren’s design in volumes 1-3 include guarded arm armour underneath his tailcoat and over his undershirt. he’s probably aware of how weak his arms are in comparison to his legs, the fact that he forgoes them in volume four could be a testament to how much he’s improved in that area of his body, that he has the confidence to only use one piece of armour simply to hold up his gloves. if you take note, his shoulders are significantly broader than they were in volume one. his armour underneath his tailcoat also could have been used for protecting his limbs against stormflower in its collapsed/ collapsing form.
youtube
i’m just putting this here for reference. ren’s part starts around 1:16. the rest of the post is just commentary and copy pastes from the wikia for reference just in case i need them. on ren’s special attacks. there are some headcanons interspersed in the ramblings, but the points above were the most important.
“ren’s attacks specialise in fast hits with multiple strikes, either slices with StormFlower or martial art strikes using his aura, great for breaking guard. his melee combos often involve firing stormflower as well. his ranged attacks fire multiple bullets, each pellet dealing 10 damage, with different ranged combo finishers depending on whether he is in the air or grounded. he has the unique passive ability of sometimes being able to finish his own team attacks. his counter deals 60 damage.”

REN’S ABILITIES.
ULTIMATE.
tier 1 - warp strike: “ren quickly dashes from enemy to enemy performing palm strikes along the way.” ren dashes within a radius, hitting up to 5 times for 200 damage each strike.
tier 2 - improved warp strike: “ren hits more enemies with his warp strike.” costs 2 to upgrade. ren now hits up to 7 times for 300 damage each strike.
tier 3 - furious warp strike / warp strike mastery: “the radius of enemies hit with ren’s warp strike is increased.” costs 2 to upgrade. to unlock defeat 300 enemies using ren’s ultimate. ren now hits up to 10 times for 400 damage each strike, over an increased radius.
LISTEN. I MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIASED, BUT REN’S WARP STRIKE IS ARGUABLY THE COOLEST ULTIMATE IN THE GAME.
it did confuse me as to why ren’s aura was green instead of pink, but i just chalked it up to game design. characters need to be distinct, and all of nora’s attacks and status effects are pink, so i’m not too fussed about it. i know from continuous horde matches that if your characters colours weren’t distinct sometimes you just fuckin lose track of where you are, so having characters with similar colours would probably be bad.
honestly though, ren’s warp strike is incredibly cool. i’m hoping that we actually get to see a lot of these attacks used in the series later on. a variation of ren’s cyclone attack was used in volume four, episode one, so i don’t think it’s completely wishful thinking. i’m still figuring out whether he’s actually warping or just moving incredibly fast. it makes me wonder whether continuous work on ren’s semblance can make him invisible to humans as well. i mean weiss has summoning as an extra ability, i think i might have gone on further in a previous headcanon about how there are multiple layers to ones semblance the further they work on it.
TEAM ATTACK.
tier 1 - cyclone: “ren spins diagonally while slashing enemies before knocking them away.” deals 650 damage to target enemy.
tier 2 - improved cyclone: “increases the number of spins and adds a splash damage to ren’s cyclone.” costs 1 to upgrade. deals 750 damage to primary target, deals up to 400 splash damage to each secondary target.
tier 3 - devastating cyclone / cyclone mastery:“ren now shoots his gun as he spins which damages more enemies in the area.” costs 2 to upgrade. to unlock defeat 100 enemies with ren’s team attacks. deals 850 damage to primary target, deals up to 400 damage to secondary targets, and shoots bullets.
god, i am glad aura is a thing in this universe because the levelled up version of the cyclone sounds like has the most capability for friendly fire ever.
HEAVY.
tier 1 - charge: “ren strikes an enemy in front of him with great force.” ren’s fully charged heavy attack deals 700 damage to one target.
tier 2 - aura charge: “ren’s fully charged heavy attack damages surrounding enemies, but costs 25% of his max aura.” costs 1 to upgrade. deals 850 damage to enemies in a small cone in front of ten, and 150 damage to enemies in a circle around ren. ren takes damage equal to ¼ of his max aura. increased Aura does not effect this loss, it’s still ¼, nor does it improve damage. if you do not have at least ¼ of your max aura, ren performs the basic Charge attack instead.
tier 3a - improved aura charge: “ren’s fully charged heavy attack stuns enemies in the surrounding area, but expends 25% of his max aura.” costs 1 to upgrade. stuns, and deals 950 damage to enemies in a small cone in front of ren, and 250 damage to enemies in a circle around ren. ren takes damage equal to ¼ of his max aura. increased Aura does not effect this loss, it’s still, ¼, now does it change the damage. if you do not have at least ¼ of your max aura, ren performs the basic charge attack instead.
tier 3b - draining aura charge / charge mastery: “ren’s fully charged heavy attack stuns enemies in the surrounding area for a long time, does more AOE damage, and makes him temporarily invincible, but expends 50% of his max aura.” costs 2 to upgrade. to unlock defeat 200 enemies with charged heavy attacks as ren. stuns, and deals 1150 damage to enemies in a small cone in front of ren, and enemies in the circle around you take 450 damage. ren takes damage equal to ½ of his max aura. increased aura does not effect this, it is still half damage. aside from this, he becomes very briefly invincible. if you do not have at least ½ your max aura, ren performs the basic charge attack instead.
the headcanons that stemmed from this attack were at the beginning of the post, but this is the attack that which was used on the king taijitu snake, volume one in emerald forest. while this is the attack which deals the most damage, it is the most dangerous. actually, yeah, this one hundred percent explains why ren was so tired after the deathstalker fight, which is why i always got irritated when people called ren useless for being tired after it. he fought two(?) massive snakes, and then assisted in the deathstalker fight, and rode an ursa in between. that’s tough work. and he doesn’t even have an offensive semblance. c’mon. anyway, it’s kind of weird that ren is the only one seen to fight like this save for that one instance with fox. we see that cinder is capable of using the same barrier technique in episode one though, which is interesting. using aura to amplify attacks is probably an extremely dangerous technique.
REN SPECIFIC ABILITIES.
extra ammo / ranged mastery: “all of Ren’s ranged attacks fire twice as many bullets.” costs 1 to upgrade. to unlock defeat 200 enemies with ranged attacks as ren. doubles the amount of bullets he fires, but each still does 10 damage.
heavy hands/ardent lotus: “ren can always finish his own team attacks.” costs 2 to upgrade. to unlock reach level 10 as ren. whenever you setup a team attack, you always have the chance to finish it yourself.
i made a joke when i was still levelling that ren’s ability to be able to finish his own team attacks is a testament to the fact that his entire fighting style is focused on minimising his reliance on other people. despite having nora around, ren’s fighting style is very independent, just in case he does run into a situation such as the one in emerald forest.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/418340/discussions/0/276237094312840508/
i read through this thread about optimal ways to fight with ren stemming from the idea that he might be underpowered, because he does appear that way in the beginning. but they’ve recognised that even in game, his fighting style is geared towards breaking through enemy blockage and using a succession of multiple fast attacks before delivering the final blow. ren is one of the easiest characters to spawn team attacks even without the additional team attack multiplier skill, which in my head translates to ren being able to locate enemy weakness and exploit it most effectively. his fighting style is very versatile, but is more aimed at individuals, as it does the most damage when focused on one enemy, very little splashback.
i’m still iffy about the effectiveness of ren’s guns. it seems pointless to only make them strong enough for deflection and distraction. nora and jaune got upgrades in v4, maybe ren got one too and we just haven’t seen it yet.
QUOTES.
RANK UP + MASTERY CHALLENGE.
“keep moving forward.” FUCK ME GENTLY WITH A CHAINSAW. to quote the wiki directly: “ren, upon level up or rank or mastery challenge completion, has a chance to say “keep moving forward” in reference to monty oum.”
“another milestone.”
“fight, focus, repeat!”
“so close to mastery.”
FIGHT WON.
“that was satisfying.”
“that was exceptional.”
“the path is clear, let’s move.”
“this area is safe… for now.”
STRONG ENEMY DEFEATED.
“too easy.”
“[sigh] i’m glad that’s over.”
“i enjoy a challenge.”
“i’ve faced far worse than you.”
TEAM ATTACK.
"you’re too slow.”
“thanks for the help.”
“i’ll finish what you started.”
“nice teamwork!”
TEAM ATTACK ( SOLO ).
“you’re too slow.” ( possibly directed at teammates )
“come on, that’s impressive, right?”
“i enjoy a challenge.”
“problem solved.”
“do not cross me.”
REVIVED.
“thank you.”
“please, let’s not do that again.”
“my fight won’t end here.”
“i can’t fail.”
TAUNT.
“[yawns]” IT GIVES ME LIFE THAT REN’S TAUNT IS A MOTHERFUCKIN’ YAWN.
OTHER.
“these ruins must be full of history.” nerd. “all the world before us.” ( looking out over a mountain range ) ( sigh ) “mountain glen… we shall fight to avenge those who were lost.” i mean that sounds familiar right. ( while climbing a hill ) “i think it’s fair to say that today’s been a bit of an… uphill battle?” followed by the cutest fucking laugh. that changed my opinions on humour, i didn’t think that ren would find puns amusing, but apparently he does. “we’re entering uncharted territories.” “forever fall truly is beautiful.”

Tumblr media
Technological advancements have led the gaming market towards cloud gaming, which entails ubiquitous and convenient real time streaming of the game. To experience this, there are a handful of mandatory requirements - Online access with a guaranteed throughput not less than 25 Mbps and latency not exceeding 20-30 ms to the cloud. The whole hosting, rendering, saving and restoration of the gaming character is processed on the remote infrastructure.
Persons who watch gaming content material have varied interests. This is specially true of females: November 2014 information from comScore Video Metrix reports that two in 5 18—34-year-old viewers of StyleHaul , a network of female-focused beauty and fashion channels, also watch channels on Machinima , one particular of the biggest gaming networks. A great— and fitting— example is iJustine. She is an influencer not only in the style and beauty space but in gaming as properly.
Everyone understands urgent situations, such as when you are expecting an urgent telephone get in touch with, but don't waste other people's time by playing a game or getting side conversations. Board gaming presents an opportunity to break away from technology and use the board game as a social medium for face to face communication. As a player, put away your mobile devices at the table. Keep in mind that even though everybody in the room is there to appreciate the game, they are also there to appreciate the organization and consideration of those around them. Distracting yourself on your phone sends the signal that you do not enjoy the company of the other individuals around you. When other players constantly sit and wait for you to take a turn, never be surprised when you don't get a reinvite.
When my brother Max 1st asked me about how to build a gaming weblog I did not even know exactly where to begin. I currently started a couple of gaming blogs in the previous: Blogs about Hearthstone, Planet of Warcraft, League of Legends and Counter-Strike. They never genuinely took off. With new upcoming games like Overwatch we wanted to perform on some thing we actually cared about: Receiving very good at video games. From that point on we took months of our valuable nights and weekends to develop a gaming blog that is now increasing each day. It is now not only paying us a decent amount of pocket dollars but the commence of a gaming weblog has also grown into a thing incredibly exciting and enjoyable: A project we can share as brothers.
Honestly, I cannot even start to guess what the future holds for gaming. I'd like to see VR turn into a lot more very affordable, and for the media to grow bored of working with videogames as a scapegoat for bar parenting or acts of extreme violence. But much more than that I'd like to see larger companies back down from their numerous anticonsumer policies. While we get treated to numerous amazing games, we're also treated quite poorly by the likes of EA and Ubisoft. Awful preorder bonuses tha tare designedto enhance preorder numbers with no actual advantage to the client, games getting released in buggy states or with poor performance, and questionable microtransactions. These are just some of the challenges that will need to be solved.
Lead The Pressure Out Of GAMING
Your gaming web site will be loaded with lots of data. Most of the content will be represented by signifies of photos and videos. So, the page loading speeds face the risk to slow down. In order for this not to come about, you require to track your site's overall performance stats on each desktop and handheld devices. Google PageSpeed Insights is 1 of the most popular solutions for this objective. This is a totally free on the internet tool from Google developers, which will enable you make your web page load speedy on all devices.
For rather some time now, Dell has had its own common brand of gaming PCs, Alienware, which is effectively-identified for its high-finish platforms. This enables them to concentrate on releasing extra practical computer systems through the Inspiron brand, such as the 5675 model. Equipped with a couple of elements that permit you to play on a 1080p monitor without having also lots of compromises, it is a good quality machine, though not exceptional. But thanks to the intense versatility of Dell goods, updating the peripherals won't be a trouble more than time.
There's no "I" in team and the days of becoming restricted to solo gaming are extended gone. Online play lets you join forces and comprehensive missions co-operatively, or go head-to-head with real folks from around the planet instantaneously. A premier online gaming knowledge backed by dedicated servers offers quick, smooth connections, but usually comes with a smaller month-to-month or yearly fee. If you want to play with your close friends make confident you know which consoles they are working with, that way you are not left on the sideline.
Attempt to discover some thing you love and it makes blogging a terrific hobby that can even get you paid. Let's say you like to play all the latest and greatest of the Playstation four. You may possibly want to start out a assessment gaming blog. Do you like to study evaluations? Then attempt to imitate the writing style of your favourite reviewers. Hi. My name is Baden Ronie and I live up in bonny Scotland exactly where I was born and raised. I've been gaming for a thing like twenty years now over a range of platforms. And then some years ago I decided that writing about games created sense. There wasn't any magical eureka moment that I can remember. There was no flash of light followed by realisation smacking in the face. Nope, I just loved to read, loved videogames and somehow decided that writing about them created perfect sense. My early function, in a word, sucked. My existing operate sucks, too, but my initial operate sucked far more.
The appeal of gaming has generally been its capacity to immerse a player in ways that standard reality can't. It can be a fun distraction from the boring components of our lives or anything additional meaningful, like a therapeutic tool for depression or even a genuine profession. What ever the case, the most successful games are the ones that causes our synapses to light up in methods they haven't before and can take us somewhere new.

The biggest query marks with any gaming device are often about the quantity and top quality of the games. Google Play's huge ecosystem of games meant SHIELD portable had a leg up on classic consoles. And though practically every single touch-primarily based game on Google Play was playable working with SHIELD portable's touchscreen, they weren't in a position to take full benefit of SHIELD portable's capabilities.
